"I think anything is possible," he told Entertainment Tonight over the weekend at PaleyFest in Los Angeles. "I think friends can become lovers like that, that’s possible too."
However, he's not gunning for it to happen any time soon.
"I’m very comfortable with them being platonic — like brother and sister, and friends," he continued. "I think that suits them better."
He argues that their friendship has lasted so long it would be difficult to transition to something new.
"Alex and [Meredith] have come up together and I don’t know, [it’d be] a little weird," he said. "But anything is possible.”

Anything is possible. I think there is a level to them that could turn romantic for sure... But then yeah, they have been so close, so much friends that I am not it as possible at the same time. Given that they came through who Alex was at the beginning of the show, such a cad, to now. He's older, and more responsible and has been great with the kids. But it might difficult to push that trigger to make it romantic.

I do think it happens, it likely won't be until the show knows it's ending. That way they don't have to do the messy part of a relationship. You know they are together, and happy...

That would be a great ending for both of them.

Now THIS opinion I can understand and respect. Part of me doesnt want them to happen only because I dont want them to ruined like all the other greys couples. What they have now is the most stable relationship on the show.

They've both all but said that they're not interested in it....

I think Alex will be less enthusiastic in episode 13x21 when he learns that Meredith and Nathan are a couple as Owen will be. Lol. He sees a snake in Nathan. But honestly Alex is not supposed to do that. He should not destroy Meredith's happiness with Nathan, neither he nor Maggie, nor Owen.

Since he is not interested in her romantically he should be happy for her that she found someone. Wasn't it a time when he wanted her to be happy with another man? He doesn't like Nathan because of his attitude toward him. This has nothing to do with Meredith.

Yes Alex does not like Nathan just because he was just taking care of the baby behind his back, because Nathan wanted to talk to the baby, as he could not go through the many heart surgeries. Nathan has only decided in the interest of the baby and the parents. The baby is alive. Alex now considers Nathan a snake and a bogeyman.

I think Alex does not want to believe that Nathan is basically a good guy and an excellent surgeon who likes children on the one hand.
