The prospect of Meredith and Alex’s friendship turning romantic on Grey's Anatomy is one of the show’s most controversial possibilities, and Betsy Beers understands the shippers rooting for that surgeon-on-surgeon loving.


The Grey’s executive producer (who’s also Shonda Rhimes’s producing partner) represented the long-running ABC show at the ATX Television Festival this weekend in Austin, Texas — and she took the opportunity to weigh in on MerLex.


“I think there’s something about them where fans sometimes feel like that might be inevitable, so they’re getting ahead of it,” she told E! News. “So I don’t think it surprises me because I think it’s a logical place to go.”

How can one understand Betsy Beers then? Find the idea of a romantic relationship between Meredith and Alex well and only shares the opinion of the few Merlex fans or can it really be that the Merlex happens?

I am all caught up to 12x09 and wow, MEREDITH AND ALEX. I seriously loved that he was the first person she heard. And his face when he saw her after he was beat up. they are amazing.

What's funny is that I was getting pissed off over Merthan in the episode Derek died during my latest rewatch of 11x21 yesterday. But then 11x23 plays and I'm like, Merlex.

I will always ship MerDer, but I would love to see Meredith/Alex explored!!
