I've never seen her husband before either. Maybe it is him.

I think it is her husband, as he certainly looks familiar from a pic we saw of her family some time ago... Nice to see him accompanying her out for a change since they both seem to really prefer their privacy most of the time...not that I really can blame them there...

Yes, it is nice to see him. She usually brings her daughter.

Welcome to the thread, Val.

It's good to know that Chandra volunteers for Habitat for Humanity. I remember Katie has volunteered for this way back in her Roswell days.

It's a really great charity. It really helps a lot of people. I've volunteered several times. It's hard physical work but once you see the families move in, it's all worth it.

Bumping this to get a discussion started.

Is it just me or was the Chief's reason or not choosing Bailey as CR a little bit illogical? I'm asking because I still think Bailey could be CR and it wouldn't affect how great a surgeon she could be. I don't believe being a CR would take her away from surgery, otherwise, why would anyone apply for the job? I might understand it better if Bailey was ready for the Chief of Surgery position but she hasn't even done her fellowship yet. No wonder Bailey didn't thank the chief for doing her that "favor.". His reason sounded a little bit condescending to me.

I'm inclined to agree with you there, Janine...and I look forward to seeing how Bailey deals with this explanation these next few episodes...no question about it...

I completely agree I believe that Bailey is one of those who can "do it all". She could do surgeries, schedule surgeries, lead her interns(residents), and know everything that's going on in the surgery wing of the hospital. Basically, it's what Bailey's been doing for the past three seasons. Everyone listens and respects her, and she still has time to be a great surgeon. She has all the leadership skills required for being CR, in my opinion.

I wouldn't have thanked him either. The Chief basically did what he did with Derek, and with Meredith as well --- he really didn't give Bailey the CR position because he wanted her to still have a "family to go home to" at the end of the day. Like Shonda says in the podcast, he basically wanted to prevent her from making the same mistakes as him. But in my opinion, I find that out of line. Richard should at least give these people the option to make their own mistakes. And who knows? Maybe Bailey would have been able to juggle her CR duties with her home life. IMO, I think sometimes the Chief doesn't realize that everyone is not like him and will not make the same errors.

***

And I noticed on the Callie thread that some people mentioned how Bailey acted sort of mean about the whole situation. However, (as a Bailey *and* a Callie fan), I'm inclined to say that Bailey acted as most people would ... she's only human. Even though I do like Callie ... I still believe that Bailey was made to be CR and I also felt a tiny bit of joy in seeing Callie doing poorly at it and needing Bailey's advice twice throughout the episode. Although, I guess I do see The Chief's point about being in the OR. I guess I'm a little confused about it though: does being CR mean no OR time? Because I seem to remember Richard doing his own surgeries still, and he's the ultimate Chief.
