As we were saying, Addison definitely knew something was up when Derek and Meredith were acting weird towards one another and when Meredith told her she was dating Finn, Addison realized that he was jealous which led to their confrontation about Derek not caring in front of everyone. (wow...run on sentence)

And I'm the queen of run on sentences. I'm trying to be aware of it, but it's hard.

So my question is: When did you start shipping Derek and Addison? And why?

To answer my own question, it was when D/A were arguing near the elevators. Addison said that she used to be Derek's best friend. And he tells her that he thought she was the love of his life.

Great scene, and that's when I realized that underneath the hurt...there was a lot of love between them.

See for me, I can't really put my finger on the exact moment I began to ship Addek. I started watching in the beginning of season 2, but I quickly caught myself up with season 1 so I KIND OF shipped Merder but they never really seemed "right" for lack of a better word, and Addison just gradually grew on me.

But if I had to pick a single moment where I really knew I was an Addek would probably be when she was in the hall on a gurney in As You Know It. In that moment you really see how much she loves him and how worried she is. I'm one to believe in true love and you don't get like that unless you truly love someone and you wouldn't deal with their crap if you didn't love them either. So yeah, that's why/when I started to ship Addek

It's always interesting to see different POV's. A lot of people started watching later on, and then caught up. Or they watched a bunch of eps at once. I watched from when the pilot first aired, so my thoughts spread out over a year.

I like Mer/Der well enough. But I just prefer D/A.

I'm not really a big fan of Merder just because of the situation they're in, but if it were under different circumstances (i.e. Derek not being married) I'd probably ship them.

Truthfully my sole reason for shipping Addek is because of my love for Addison/Kate. Addison loves him and wants to be with him and I support her 110%. If she were to dump his butt I could care less about what happens to him. Like we were saying on TI, if Addie wanted to be with a sweater, we'd ship Addie/sweater all the way

I kind of feel the same way. She does redeem Derek somewhat for me. If she loves him, there must be something there.

Yeah, I wish they'd give us some backstory. Let us know the reasons why she's willing to put up with all the crap he's given her in Seattle and his absentness (is that a word?) while they were still in NY, and why he couldn't sign the divorce papers. I agree. There has to be something there for them to put themselves through all this.

I started watching at the beginning of season 1, and I really liked Derek and Meredith together; then Addison arrived, and her very first scene made me love her. The moment I started shipping her with Derek was when she said to the patient who blamed Meredith for the affair, that Mer was too polite to say it but she was the one to blame for the situation (it was such a mature, and unusual attitude). Then I watched your same scene Wanderer, at the elevator, and I knew they had to be together! Even now, that I have very little hope left in this ship, I will certainly go down with it!

You know, I keep trying to look for some kind of parallel/foreshadowing with Meredith/Derek/Addison to maybe see where this might be going, but I haven't really figured it out yet. The obvious is Ellis/Chief/Adele, of course, and it seems to be going in that direction; it makes me sad b/c they both apparantly stay with their wives out of some sort of obligation and they still harbor (strong?) feelings for their mistresses.
Derek does, anyway. Stupid Derek

When there was that couple in BACTBH, where he hadn't really "seen" his wife, and they wanted to fly to Paris and all that jazz, and Derek owned up to being absent, I thought, "YES!"
But then he gets all jealous about Mere dating the Vet and goes off and sleeps with her and...Stupid Derek.

I suppose it's somewhat difficult to hate MerDer. They have some really sweet and touching moments and their relationship is evidently much more than a fling. I like them. They're cute. (I like Addeck more, but that's not the point) I just hate how sometimes I feel like they're painting Addison as the "other woman." She's his wife. She shouldn't have to feel like she's coming btwn them.
Silly Derek. I can go on about how angry I am with him but I don't believe this is the right thread. HEH.
I'm going down with this ship.

Esther, nice analysis, I tend to agree with you. And don't worry, I don't think many people are happy with Derek right now. And that includes some of the McMarrieds.
