- Meredith: Dr. Shepherd.
- Derek: Dr. Shepherd? This morning I was Derek, now it's Dr. Shepherd.
- Meredith: Dr. Shepherd we should pretend it never happened.
- Derek: What never happened? You sleeping with me last night? Or you throwing me out this morning? Because both are fond memories I'd like to hang on to.
- Meredith: No, there will be no more memories. I'm not the girl in the bar anymore and you're not the guy. This can't exist. You get that right?
- Derek: You took advantage of me and now you want to forget it?
- Meredith: I did not take--
- Derek: I was drunk, vulnerable and good looking and you took advantage.
- Meredith: Okay, I was the one who was drunk and you are NOT that good looking.

- Derek: Seattle has ferryboats.
- Meredith: Yes.
- Derek: I've been living here for six weeks, I didn't know there were ferryboats.
- Meredith: Seattle is surrounded by water on three sides.
- Derek: Hence the ferryboats. [They both step onto the elevator.] Now I'm going to have to like it here. I wasn't planning on liking it here. I'm from New York. I'm generically engineered to dislike everywhere, except Manhatten. I have a thing for ferryboats.
- Meredith: [pause] I'm not going out with you.
- Derek: Did I ask you to go out with me? [turns to look at Meredith then turns back forward.] Do you want to go out with me?

- Meredith: Your my teacher! And your my teacher's teacher, and you're my teacher.

- Meredith: So just for the record, you’d tell me if I need to get tested, right?
- Derek: You think I have syphilis?
- Meredith: No. I mean we never made any rules or anything…we never said we had rules and I wouldn’t hold it against you.
- Derek: When would I have time to go out and get syphilis? You’re a handful enough as it is. And besides we’re practically a condom ad.
- Meredith: But no more glow-in-the-dark ones.
- Derek: You see? There’s nothing to worry about. Maybe we should make some rules.
- Meredith: We should.
Derek: Okay.
- Meredith: Okay.
- Derek: Just for the record…I like the glow-in-the-dark ones.
- Meredith (laughs): I bet you do.

- Meredith: OK, Here it is. Your choice, it's simple. Her or me. And I'm sure she's really great. But Derek...I love you. In a really, really big...pretend to like your taste in music... let you eat the last piece of cheesecake... hold a radio over my head outside your bedroom window... unfortunate way that makes me hate you...love you. 212 ~ Grandma Got Runover By A Reindeer
- Derek (to Addison): Christmas makes you want to be with people you love. I'm not saying this to hurt you or because I want to leave you, because I don't. Meredith wasn't a fling. She wasn't revenge. I fell in love with her. That doesn't go away because I decided to stay with you.


216 ~ It's the End of the World
- Meredith to Cristina: OK. The man I love has a wife and then he chooses her over me. And that wife takes my dog—OK, she didn't take the dog, I gave it to her, but I didn't mean to give it to her, I meant to give it to him—but that does not change the fact that she's got my McDreamy. And my McDog. She's got my McLife! And what have I got? You know, I can't remember the last time we kissed. 'Cause you never think the last time is the last time, you think there'll be more. You think you have forever, but you don't. Plus my conditioner decided to stop working and I think I have brittle bones. I just-I just need something to happen. - Meredith: Yeah, I almost died today. ... I can't, I can't remember our last kiss. All I could think about was "I'm going to die today" and I can't remember our last kiss. Which, is pathetic but the last time we were together and happy, I... want to be able remember that, and I can't Derek. I can't remember.
- Derek: I'm glad you didn't die today. [starts to leave but stops] It was a Thursday morning, you were wearing that ratty little 'Dartmouth' T-shirt you look so good in, the one with the hole at the back of the neck. You'd just washed you hair and you smelled like some kind of...flower. I was running late for surgery, you said you were going to see me later, and you lean to me, put your hand on my chest and you kissed me. Soft. It was quick. Kinda like a habit. You know, like we'd do it everyday for the rest of our lives. And you went back reading the newspaper and I went to work. That was the last time we kissed.

- Addison: I can't compete. He's not having an affair. He's not trying to hurt me. He's just... [Sighs]. The only people who don't know that Derek loves Meredith are Derek and Meredith. How do I compete with that?

- Meredith (talking to herself as Derek walks up): Brain man, stupid, corny, idiotic. I cannot believe I did this. Stupid loser… son of a….. ! I could be at home instead of… ugh! stupid… reason.
- Derek (smiling): Meredith.
- Meredith: Where have you been? I’ve been waiting and waiting for you and I did this stupid, embarrassing, humiliating, corny thing, and I was just gonna tell you that this over here is our kitchen and this is our living room and over there, that’s the room where our kids could play. I had this whole thing about “I was gonna build us a house,” but I don’t build houses because I’m a surgeon and now I’m here feeling like a lame-ass loser but I don’t build houses. I got all whole and healed, and you don’t show up. And now it’s all ruined because you took so long to come home and I couldn’t even find that bottle of champagne.
(Derek lifts up the bottle of champagne and Meredith looks at it in awe).
- Derek: Mm-hmm. This is the kitchen? Living room? Little small. I think the view is much better from here and that’s the room where the kids are gonna play? Hmm. Where’s our bedroom?
- Meredith: I’m still mad at you, and I don’t know if I trust you. I want to trust you, but I don’t know if I do. So I’m just gonna try and trust you because I believe that we can be extraordinary together rather than ordinary apart and I wanna be…
(Derek walks over and kisses Meredith. They kiss a few times with Meredith wrapping her arms around Derek.)
- Derek (sighs, stopping the kiss): I have to go.
- Meredith: What?
- Derek (smiling the whole tie): In order to kiss the way I want you, in order to do more than kiss you, I need to speak to Rose. I want my conscience clear so that I can do more than kiss you. Stay here. Don’t move. Wait for me.
(Meredith is smiling and happy as Derek walks away.)
