That scene with Richard when he said Ellis was too far ahead in her career Mer is thinking of Derek there. But the point is, Richard admittedly say he make the wrong choice for the wrong reason and in result hurt Ellis, Meredith aND maggie. He took an easy way out

So she needs to TALK to her husband. Avoiding is the easy way out. You can only avoid for so long, and it sounds like (from the promo) she's still avoiding him in ep5... idk. Hopefully we hear more progress than that from her convos with Callie, though at the same time, I want to see it through Mer's eyes, not Callie's.
