I think they should focus on the originals, but with their actual original personalities. I can see that Mer and Alex are different, but we saw their growth and it makes sense. But Bailey for example, she changed so much that people who don't watch the show would think she's a different character.

I don't understand why they keep adding people to the cast, it is so frustrating. They already have so many cast members and they can't manage to give them decent storylines and develop them, how is adding more characters going to help.

He's going to be a love interest for Meredith somewhere later in the season... it's really the only reasonable explanation aside from casting someone as outside chief candidate (but you'd only need a guest star for that)

His age makes it appear as if he is a love interest for Meredith. Also the fact that they want a well known actor. Almost as if they are searching for someone the audience would accept as a replacement for Derek.

It indicates for me that they hope EP stays long enough, and that they can revive the bleeding series after the death of Derek.

I'd say he will be Mer's love interst, too: well-known, good-looking, believable as a doctor. Could be that they will introduce him as the outside chief candidate.

I think they will take things slow with Meredith and focus on her career and friendships. I could see them bringing in a potential love interest and having him on for a while to let the audience get to know and like him before anything happened much later.
