I think the reason Alex doesn't want to be at the gala and is avoiding Jo is because he's already seen his father at the hospital. Jo will probably confront him about why he's acting like a jerk and that's when he'll tell her about his father (that's the emotional secret he tells Jo according to the synopsis).

Lol about him not liking Galas, though I can say that I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. This Gala is said to be like the prom in ways. Remember what happened at the prom? Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if he just didn't like things like galas.

I also agree with the whole communications thing. I'm happy that they are making them a REAL couple and not like these other couples that TV shows have, that are perfect and have no problems. One of the reasons why I like Grey's, it might have corny and off the wall situations, but behind them is real life problems like marriage, communication, ect.
Communication was one of things that broke Izzie and Alex apart and I glad that is going to be brought to the forefront in this relationship. It shows maturity and respect, something I see more of in Alex in the last few seasons. And I'm glad they are keeping up with having him grow. Hopefully there will be more growth with the whole dad thing.

Yees, definitely. And, if Camilla's words are anything to go by, the fact that they realise these problems and work on them is fantastic. Or, at least, I'm hoping they do.

I do see Alex regressing a bit when his father comes back initially, and understandably so. I think we'll see interesting growth and realisation, if Shonda's words are anything to go by.

Heh, when I wrote that I was thinking about my own marriage. I've been married 4 years and my hubby and I are still learning about communication. relationships aren't easy and I'm glad that Shonda hasn't veered off of that and gone the "perfect family" route. As I said in the thread for the episode......it looks like the honeymoon will be over for Alex and Jo, because that is where they are at right now, the honeymoon stage of the relationship.

And yeah, I'd say the honeymoon will be over soon enough.

He's given her the cold shoulder before (and her him), so this isn't exactly a new thing for them (but it is different this time around now that they're together, granted). Last time she outright asked if he was pissed off at her, so I imagine she'll be just as direct this time around.

I'm trying not to read into too much of what the actors say, though, but it's reeeaaally difficult.

Figured I'd answer your question about 6x19 in here: yeah that was the brother episode. The problem there was that Meredith was too involved, and very much in the middle. It served more as a "Here's your Alex backstory, now **** off." plot in the form of conversations between Aaron and other characters, rather than something substantial.

Given that the Dad arc will be 5 episodes long and Meredith has her own worries, I'm more confident this time around. I just hope they won't make the same mistakes with Jo.

I'm also worried about the reaction to Jo having scenes with Dad by herself, which is bound to happen, and people claiming it's all about Jo because of it, etc, etc.
