It really shouldn't be this way. They messed up both characters by not leaving them as snarky frenemies. Sad thing is the relationship itself could have worked but the terrible writing ensured it didn't (along with everything else last season).

There's just no excuse at all for that offensive mess. Everything else was bad, but their story was offensive and didn't fit either character.

There was, tbh. She's innocent, he apologises, they go back to being colleagues. That's the only way to clean up the mess. Even if they turned it into a mental health story for him.
