Board Recustomization

Hi everyone ,

The Fan Forum Graphics Team is in the process of (re)customising message boards and now it's your turn!

If you have any picture or colour suggestions please post them in this thread. Don't post (hotlink) the pictures, links to them are fine. Make sure that the pictures are of as high quality as possible and that the top of the head of the person in the picture isn't cropped off. We also like to use photoshoot images when possible, preferably individual pictures of each cast member. When suggesting colours please keep in mind that some colours will work better than others. The Team usually tries to avoid really vibrant and dark colours because we have found in the past that they are hard to look at for long periods of time. If you would like some help coming up with colour combinations we recommend checking out the design seeds website. As we want every board to have their own unique look it is preferable that you do not link to the customisations of other boards as suggested colour schemes.

Everyone is encouraged to voice their opinions for this as you are the ones who will be posting on the board and we hope to make as many people happy with the finished result as possible. It does not matter if you are a board moderator, regular poster, or casual poster here. If you have a suggestion, please share it here with us :).

Your suggestions for possible pictures and colours will be taken into serious consideration, but in the interest of seeing every board receive the best customised look possible the final decision concerning how this board will be customised will be made by the members of the Graphics Team. This is because we want to make sure that the selected graphic and colours fit into the overall design scheme that we've established for Fan Forum.

For a full explanation of the message board customisation process, see this thread. If you have any questions, please feel free to send Mel, Chelle, or Rora a PM or ask the Team on the message board customisation thread.

Please leave this topped until a week or so after the board has been (re)customised.

Note: It usually takes approximately two weeks for us to finish making the new banner and the sooner we know what you want, the more we can work on it (though it can take a few months or so to set it up with the new colours on the board), so please let us know your suggestions as soon as possible.

When the Team have finished making the graphic I will close this thread until the graphic and colours get put up. It will then be re-opened so that you can share your thoughts about it.

Mel, Chelle, and Rora :flowers:

Don't mind me, but just some advice for deciding on which characters to include:

You can have a maximum of 15/16 characters in the graphic. They will be small or at least some of the characters will be, in order to fit them all in. (Twilight is an example of 15 characters, Downton Abbey & Grey's Anatomy are examples of 13 characters)

Personally, as a mod of a franchise, my co-mod & I limited ours to 12 so they aren't too small, but you could still represent each show. I don't know if you'll want to represent Chicago Justice but if you're just representing the three (Fire, PD, & Med) still you may wish to do the same. You get 4 characters from each show then :)

Ideally for visibility though between 6-10 is the best. I know a lot prefer the look of 6-8 characters. Of course that would limit your representation from each show though

So just a few things to think about to help you decide how to fit these shows into your banner . I know its impossible

I'd presume you'd at least one Matthew Casey (CF), Kelly Severide (CF), Hank Voight (CPD), Jay Halstead (CPD), & Will Halstead (CM)? I don't know anything about Med really to even guess a second character there let alone suggest more. But I also don't watch the shows, I was mainly just coming to let you know how many characters you could have & threw in some character names too :P

something more 'emergency services'-like for colours?

BlondieLeigh 10-23-2019 08:18 AM

I was thinking maybe three from each with focus on characters that are still around. Two if we want to include Justice. I don't really want it to be too cluttered.

I don't think we actually have a solo promo shot of Annie, so Emily probably isn't a possibility.

The latest fire promo shoot was for season 6 - https://images.spoilertv.com/Chicago...onal%20Photos/ but I'm not sure how easy they would be to use.

Last ones for PD were season 5 - https://images.spoilertv.com/Chicago...onal%20Photos/

Last ones for Med were season 3 - https://images.spoilertv.com/Chicago...onal%20Photos/

Med ones have some effect added to them, so it might be easier to work with April, Daniel and Ethan, where that is at the bottom of the photo. All three are still there.

With PD, Al and Antonio are gone. With Fire, Gabby and Otis are gone. Sarah and Connor are gone from Med.

shinebrighterxx 10-23-2019 01:47 PM

Three from each is a good amount

As for not having solo pics - it depends on the group shots with them in it. We may still be able to use them to include those characters if they were wanted.

The issue with those CFire pics is that the leads are obscured :look:... but we may be able to get them from the group shot. May need to see if there's a better quality version of it though

For the Med ones, yeah that effect on the pics probably will cause issues. Again we may need to just get the characters from the group shot, but once again will look to see if there's a better quality version

Even for PD if you include Hank, we'll need to take him from the group shot because his head is cut off at the top & he's sitting an odd angle but otherwise the pics look ok to me. Jay may not have enough body showing...

Which characters do you want? :)

Chicago Fire: Matthew Casey, Kelly Severide(2), & ??? (I'd suggest Christopher Herrmann, Wallace Boden, or maybe a more recent Paramedic to show that side of things?)

Chicago PD: Hank Voight, Jay Halstead, ???

Chicago Med: Will Halstead, April Sexton, Daniel Charles,Ethan Choi (honestly for this one pick the characters you would most prefer from the show, then I can tell you how feasible their pictures are, I've just listed the 3 you mentioned & Will as I thought he was more of a lead?)[

Have you had a chance to think about what sort of colours you'd like? :) I feel like I could put together a colour scheme based on the shows title cards if you'd be interested in seeing that?

Otherwise, some colour schemes which jumped out at me include: Mental Vacation #22, Color View #99, Color View #113
But I of course have no idea what sorts of colours you're thinking, I was more thinking about those colours which are in the title cards

BlondieLeigh 10-23-2019 01:57 PM

All three shows are more ensemble now, so everyone should be considered, imo.

I'd like at least one of the women included. With Fire, if we go for Matt and Kelly we should also include Sylvie, because they're each in charge of their rig. That further complicates things though, because so is Herrmann now

For PD, I would say Jay for sure. Probably Kim and then Atwater or Ruzek. With the stuff that came out when Sophia left, I'm not sure how people would respond to Hank being included.

Med - Will is considered a lead, but he also tends to be a polarising character (people love him or hate him), and med is the most ensemble of them all, so they all fit. So it might be worth just seeing who works best for you all.

shinebrighterxx 10-23-2019 02:06 PM

Yeah, true, they are ensembles. It is hard. You've got my problems with NCISs, only worse - large ensemble casts, three shows, & only so much space

The three you said for Med are ones with better pictures so if they represent the show well we can leave it at them :)

Since you've got 4 characters from each (if you include Will) you could go with that, but that brings you up to 12 characters :look:

Chicago Fire: Matthew Casey, Kelly Severide(2), & Sylvie Brett (or Christopher Herrmann)

Chicago PD: Jay Halstead, Kim Burgess, & Kevin Atwater or Adam Ruzek

Chicago Med: April Sexton, Daniel Charles, & Ethan Choi

To narrow down PD - Kevin probably has the better picture since Adam is sitting & has his hands up :look:. We can also leave it for the team to decide which they'd prefer using as Kevin's picture has light rays which can also be a pest sometimes

BlondieLeigh 10-23-2019 02:18 PM

I would say go with what's easiest to work with overall. The priority for me is updating it to current characters because quite a few have left. Lisa might have different ideas as to who should be included, so I'd wait to see what she says, too, of course.

My concern with 12 is the whole looking cluttered idea. But it might be better in terms of representing the shows properly.

In terms of colour schemes, the shows tend to have a colour assigned to them that changes every season. This year it's blue (PD), red (Fire) and green (Med). It'd be nice to include them in some way. The ones they use officially are too bright, but could lighter shades be possible?

shinebrighterxx 10-23-2019 02:26 PM

Of course  she (& any of your posters) may be able to narrow down some choices for you too :)

That's my issue with 12 too. I put up with it for NCIS as its the best way to represent the shows properly, but its a lot of characters. I'm slightly bias possibly (& you have to take my word for it), but the team did do a wonderful job finding ways to include everyone & keep them visible when they recently worked on the new banner. But it is a lot of faces in a small space.
Degrassi is an example of 13 characters, & probably a better show of how faces can be visible still. It all depends on our placement, but that can also be determined by the pictures...

Yeah I did see those were the colours for each show, didn't know it was this year. Evil to change it each year. Does it change much when they do change it? I can't imagine a shade other than red/orange/yellows for Fire for example :look: Do you want me to play around & try make something based on the shows colours? (it'd either be tonight or tomorrow afternoon as unfortunately I need to go to work :pout: :P)

BlondieLeigh 10-23-2019 02:37 PM

Maybe it could be left up to each member of the team making one as to how many they want to include  They know what works :)

Last year fire was orange, med was red and pd was blue. They never change them dramatically, but there are sometimes slight changes.

shinebrighterxx 10-24-2019 12:53 AM

Sounds like reds/oranges & blues/greens are the main colours for the shows then :look: . Although putting together this PD comes out more purple :look: :P

On their owns, & just taking those colours they're all a bit harsh. PD is the only nice one, but the purple shades probably don't fit the franchise? I also put together the little bit below with some of the colours, muting them a little bit. Maybe a aqua/teal board with red/orange & blue highlights would work?

https://i.postimg.cc/ZKyRZ1SQ/1C2.png

BlondieLeigh 10-24-2019 02:20 PM

I actually like the purples. It doesn't really fit with fire though. Fire will always be the most harsh of the colour schemes though, so probably shouldn't be used for the main colours.

shinebrighterxx 10-24-2019 06:46 PM

Yeah I liked the purple too but doesn't necessarily match orange/reds :pout:

The harshness is why I suggested the aqua tones as the mains

BlondieLeigh 10-26-2019 04:28 PM

Must have missed that part.

Teal would work for both Med and PD. So yeah, using the fire colours for highlights would be the best option.

LoyalFreakLisa 10-26-2019 08:24 PM

I think the Teal color would work too! :D
