[Episode Discussion] Chicago Med - 3x18 - "This Is Now"
 Chicago Med 9:00 PM Tuesday May 1st, 2018 After a shooting occurs during a block party at a local park, Med is overrun with victims that stretch the hospital and staff to its limits. In the midst of the chaos, Dr. Choi devises a new mass casualty plan on the fly and Dr. Manning struggles to stay focused when she realizes her son and nanny might have been at the scene. This episode. Wow. Just wow. I don't even know where to begin, so much happened!
The first patients showing up in police cars, the guy fainting in the waiting room but seeming fine, only to find out he died. Operating in the doctor's lounge. This hour was so intense and so emotionally exhausting and every second of it was worth it. They kept me guessing as to who the shooter was, and I liked that. It really could have been any of them, and just when I thought they had narrowed it down to two, they added another suspect then turned it back on the other two. I am so glad they kept the shooter alive to make him face up to his actions. Having Connor and Ava admit they were tired before going up to the OR to continue treating patients was quite the statement. They can't take a break when so many lives are on the line. The minor side story of Owen and his nanny potentially being at the location of the shooting was great, too. Seeing Natalie try to persevere and do her job while she was terrified for her son was both heart wrenching and inspiring. I was expecting them to say that Owen was there, but I was also expecting him to be unharmed but lost because the nanny was killed. I'm glad that wasn't the case and it was a simple matter of the nanny grabbing Owen and running, leaving her phone behind. April carrying that little boy's body and putting it with the other bodies broke my heart  It was great to see Emily step up, going above and beyond her volunteer role to do what needed doing. This was just... wow. |
