Went back through the episode and caught a few more things: I love how Matt and Archie's chemistry turns a scene of (potentially disgusting) exposition into something so charming. And I really love their smiles in that gif.  Bonus: Kalinda's initial reaction to Cary stating he was staying at the SA's office sounded like real disappointment. She switches gears quickly (to surprise over Peter wanting Cary to stay on, and the implications for her), but methinks that first reaction was a genuine one. My heart broke for Kalinda when she extended a small but friendly smile to Alicia at the conference table and Alicia just stared back coldly. If Kalinda wasn't 100% sure yet that Cary's warning spelled doom, she knew after that exchange. After the first arm touch Cary probably figured "Well, I got my hand back that time" so it was safe to try again.  I don't think that Cary invited Kalinda to his office to help her, and here's why: There is no way that he could have known that spotting heart doodles on a legal pad would be meaningful information to Kalinda. Upon rewatch, I got the impression that he called her there to keep her from getting wind of Nancy's new information (Stephanie's credit card transaction from the hotel where she'd met the victim previously).** He was keeping her busy/distracting her so that she wouldn't find something out via another one of her sources. I took it as a mode of fairly benign sabotage on Cary's part, and I'm wondering if the touches in the scene were a way for Cary to physically "ground" Kalinda (make sure she stayed put) as well as over-compensation for kind of screwing her over. **However, I think the scene is nearly impossible to read as-is and there must have been another scene that was cut which would have made this clearer. (And hey, if the scene that was cut was one of Kalinda complaining to Cary about what a heart-doodling airhead Nancy is, then him leaving out the legal pad would have made sense as a clue to help her.) I found it amusing that Will and Diane were so pissed off at Cary for feeding information to Nancy Crozier when they have benefited from him feeding information to Kalinda before. Quote:

Baby steps (slightly backwards but still...). You make a good point about the second scene. In my fantastyworld, he just wanted an excuse to see her but it could have been for any number of reasons.
