I can see what Conny means, but I think it's just the clothes. He definitely doesn't look like he's gained weight up close.

OKAY.... so I'm still shaking, y'all. Which obviously indicates that I met him!!!

I guess I should start at the beginning....

So my mom had called the playhouse for me to find out if there was a way to meet the actors, and the playhouse said sometimes they just come down into the lobby. I've NEVER heard of this before because I really don't go to a lot of plays or musicals, and when I do.... there's a stage door, so I was stressed about this actually happening.

When I got to the playhouse this evening, it was still an hour before doors opened, so I asked the girl at the ticket window about a stage door, and she said the actors might come down in the lobby, which I still couldn't fully believe.

I asked a girl at a ticket desk inside when the doors opened the same question, and I got the same answer... and I was still doubtful. I'm clearly an idiot, but I just thought it might be one of those things they do only on premiere night, you know?

Anyway, I saw the first act of the play, and it really was great. Matt is really great on stage. I can understand why one person thought he used his hands too much, but that's not anything new to me. There were times I thought he used them too much on GG. It's just his thing, and it didn't bother me. His character is very interesting.... Third is so smart but also really open and charismatic and enjoys challenges, and Laurie really doesn't know what to make of that -- when he doesn't fall into her mold. And it was interesting to see how his character changed as a result of the plagiarism attacks and to see how he's still such a nice, open guy after everything. He was a really funny character too; he got the most laughs.

Matt really did a fantastic job. The entire cast is amazing and talented, and Matt really fits in. In the second act, the audience applauded after pretty much every scene, but I can understand why because there were a lot of important, powerful scenes. I was so excited when Matt had a solo scene, and everyone applauded him as he left.

Even though this is a Matt board, I have to comment on Sarah Drew. As I said, the entire cast is amazing, but she really stood out. She didn't have too many scenes, but she was so, so great. Her last scene in the second act was especially moving.

Anyway, it's a great play, and I only wish more of you could see it. It was pretty full tonight, so I'm glad so many people who may not have seen Matt in anything before are getting to see what we've known about him -- that he's talented and will go far.

Oh, and my seats were third row, so I was seriously less than 10 feet from the stage... which meant I was obviously very, very close to Matt the entire time. It's a nice position to be in. OH! And he's in jeans in basically every one of his scenes... except for at the end, when he's in khaki shorts. I had a very nice view all night.

So back to meeting Matt...

During the intermission, I went up to the concierge because I wanted to find out what time the actors might be coming down since I needed to schedule a cab. Finally I got an explanation for why they'd be in the lobby -- they had to exit through there. Heh. I felt much more assured about meeting them then, although I still rushed to the lobby after the play.

While I was talking to the concierge, they said I could send up a note to one of the actors if I wanted. And even though I knew that could make me seem like such a crazy fangirl, I took them up on it because I didn't want to miss a chance to talk to Matt at all. I figured at the very least, I could wish him luck.

So yeah, after the play, the concierge remembered me and told me they'd be down in 15 minutes tops. I waited less than 10.

Matt and Sarah came down with two guys, and I asked if I could stop him for a second, and he seemed surprised but was like, "Absolutely!"

So I told him I sent up a note to him and came from Atlanta to see him, and I asked if he could sign a program for me (before I pulled out the RL TV Guide and S5 DVD booklet.... didn't want to overwhelm him yet), and he didn't mind at all. He saw that I had a stack of programs in my hands and asked if I wanted him to sign those as well.. and I wasn't about to say no. I apologized, but he said he didn't mind at all. He even offered to write messages (again... "anything I want"), but I didn't want to take up even more time since I was making him sign like 10 things, lol. When I asked for a picture (and apologized again for holding them up), he was like... "Anything you want." I pulled out the TV Guide and S5 booklet after the picture.

Ah! I keep remembering things and having to edit them in, lol. While Matt was signing my stack of programs, Sarah joked about his signature being so illegible in comparison to hers. His is pretty bad, but I commented that it was an efficient signature, especially since he was signing so many things.

I mentioned that I knew some of you involved with the birthday project, and he said that it's so nice to that you do it. He seemed very appreciative.

BTW, Sarah Drew was just as sweet as Matt. She was surprised I had my Everwood DVD booklet for her to sign, and she joked about not getting a note sent up to her. Their friends joked about me being so prepared since I was pulling out the DVD booklets and TV Guide and had extra Sharpies for Sarah to use, but I was like... I wasn't about to come out to LA unprepared. Oh, and Matt took my picture with Sarah, so it was exciting to hold the camera after he used it, lol.

They're both very, very nice people. They seemed impressed (if not secretly a little scared, lol) that I came out from Atlanta for this, and they asked how I was enjoying my trip and wished me well for the rest of it. They asked if it was my first time out here and seemed surprised that I came out here just to see him in it. And I made sure I got a hug from Matt right before I left. I love hugs, and since I knew my chances of ever being able to hug him were slim, I asked for a hug, and he didn't hesitate.

Aside from being very talented, Matt (and I only mention him here because we haven't really discussed out impressions of Sarah Drew here, heh) is exactly what we've always thought him to be -- humble, approachable, gracious, and down-to-earth. His parents should be proud that they've raised him so well, and Matt should be proud of himself for staying grounded and being a geuinely nice, appreciative guy.

I really can't say enough good things about Matt. Somehow I managed to carry on a somewhat coherent conversation with Sarah and him, although I'm sure I said a lot of embarrassing things throughout the conversation. Luckily that's not anything new to me, and anything idiotic or crazy that I said, Matt didn't make me feel awkward or weird about it.

If I weren't already in love with him, I really would be after meeting him. Seeing him live and meeting him confirmed exactly why I'm a fan -- why I'm proud to be a fan of such a great guy. And it was definitely worth this very expensive trip and missing class today, haha. Picture coming soon....

Heh, thanks, I appreciate that since I hate my hair in it (which is normally straight, and my dark roots aren't as noticeable).

Luckily Matt's the focus of the picture, and he's so hot and so close to me that I don't really care about how I look. You should've seen me throughout the play. Every time he came on stage, my mouth dropped open a little. I still couldn't believe he's that gorgeous and was that close to me, haha.
