6.22 Partings
The Season Finale

The WB: Stars Hollow is suddenly overrun with troubadours when news gets out that the town’s regular street performer has been discovered. On the evening of Logan’s graduation from Yale, Rory throws him a wild party, but the knowledge that he is being forced to leave for London the next day makes their time together bittersweet. Meanwhile, at a Friday night dinner, Emily and Richard attempt to set Christopher up with an attractive young woman. Finally, Lorelai decides she was wrong to let Luke postpone their wedding for so long and delivers a tearful ultimatum.

Musical guests include Sonic Youth, Sam Phillips, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Yo La Tengo, Sparks, Joe Pernice and Dave Gruber Allen. Melissa McCarthy and Sean Gunn also star.
The episode was written by Amy Sherman-Palladino & Daniel Palladino and directed by Amy Sherman-Palladino.

So the season finale has finally come upon us... Rant all you want here!!

That was awesome!! So many tender moments between Rory and Logan! I loved it when he told her tell me not to go and when she cried and he just stood there not wanting to let her go and Logan telling her if you come with me to the airport I won't get on the plane. It was a great episode with outsranding performances by both Matt and Alexis! I also loved Rory getting in Mitchum's face Go Rory!!

How many of you wanted to cry with her?

Next....

Oh and I forgot Rory trying to think of something to say and her saying All I can think of is say hi William and Harry for me and Logan responds by saying I love you Ace and she responds by saying that was so much better

"I love you, Ace."

"That's so much better than say hi to William and Harry for me."

Man tiny scenes but so infused with awesomeness. Alexis and Matt reminded me why I just love this couple. They rocked tonight.

Their final scene was heartbreaking. Alexis and Matt have really gotten into a great rhythm with each other.

I loved that although Rory didn't want him to go, she also realized Logan had to go and didn't tell him to stay and tried to cheer him up about London. I wouldn't have expected her to try to convince him to stay, but I'm glad they made the best of their last night together. It was so sad though -- very bittersweet.

I'm really glad they mentioned when they decided they'd visit so if nothing else, we'll hopefully get Christmas, Thanksgiving, Guy Fawkes Day, and maybe a couple other visits.

I liked it for so many reasons but Alexis particularly impressed me - she just totally got into Rory and really seemed to understand how painful it would be for her - and it seemed like she was really saying goodbye to him. It was so painful but soo good. It was more touching when Logan was the vulnerable and strong one too - and said those magic words and was so heartbreaking unsteady when he begged her not to come to the airport with him.

And that scene with R/L on the couch when they make out. It was funny, bittersweet, and just wow. And MC has officially made that knee rub the sexy darn thing I've ever seen. Guh.

I agree with you all! I also loved it when she was scrambling for the closet and says No shoes just a coat.

On a shallow note: Logan needs to wear his leather coat all the time. I felt like their goodbye was realistic.. attempts at poor humor, the sadness, the pain of saying goodbye, the affirmation that they love each other, and they will see each other again.. and just everything.

It's funny but I truly lost it when Logan was stumbling and talking about the apartment being paid for a year and the car service paid for - and it was there if she needed it even though he knows that she won't use it.. That is what really killed me.

It helps a bit to know that MC is back for 13+ episodes next season.

i absolutely love the times when they kiss and he stops a little bit to just look at her and smile ... they have soo much on-screen chemistry ... they definitely made it so emotional for me to watch ... i didn't start crying until i saw rory crying because she made it so real, which was a good counterpart to logan's facade of strength in the situation ... i hate summer breaks! i need season 7 now!

Well, I am going to go ahead and hope that somehow we aren't Logan-free for the beginning episodes. We know they agreed on holidays, but I don't want to wait.

I don't know how anyone could deny their feelings after watching tonite. They were so clearly heartbroken.

When he woke her up, and said, 'Don't get up.' - you could tell he wanted to leave to avoid the pain, and she was so stressed trying to hurry and realizing this was it.

Personally, though, if I had to run to catch someone on an elevator, it wouldn't have been Mitch. How she managed not to race down that hall... I'll never know.

They just play off each other so well. I just adored that moment when she is on the phone with Lorelai and she is talking about the restaurant that they both love and .. she just seemed so at peace, so content and just so in love. When she talks about Logan or she is with him, I never get the sense that this is just a normal college relationship but instead one of those relationships that starts in college and blossoms into a that one relationship and foundation that everyone is looking for and doesn't always find.

I absolutely LOVED the R/L moments in this episode! It almost seems cruel to make us wait till september. Hey does anyone know when season 6 might come out on dvd? that might be the only thing to get me through till then!

I wonder if in a strange way this was a throwback to the Rory situation of the beginning of the season, when she was stumbling to make a new life for herself, and learning to be a new person in a new world, and as much as it pained Logan, he let her do it, but was there for her in her life as someone who loved and supported her despite his reservations.

Also I think that Rory know understands that this time in London isn't a punishment but as Mitchum's way to offer Logan a stable way of life - to give himself a push in the right direction, and give his life meaning. And it all fits in with the whole responsibility angle that they brought up in 6.21. This whole season one of the main themes is about taking responsibility for your actions and how you make choices, and you have to learn to live with the consequences.

I really liked that part because it shows how far into the future they're thinking. They've progressed so much this season. Last year, I doubt Logan could really see more than a few weeks ahead. Now he's thinking about them still being together in a year.

I've watched their goodbye so many times now, and I love it when he says "I love you, Ace", sort of laughing and still sad. And his look when Rory opens the door to wave to him in the elevator -- so pained.

I agree. I'm so glad Mitchum had that conversation with Rory. And good point about the recurring theme of taking responsibility for your actions.

I was so glad to see the promise of their future. It was neat to hear of him paying for the apartment for anouther year for her, like he was taking care of his future... And, the guarantee of holidays! And, knowing her so well, that she wouldn't use the car service. And, he said I love you 'Ace'. I love it it when he says those words, they're embedded in my dreams! I only wished there were a few more intense scenes of passion, that would've made my TiVo summer!
