Denise Richards (Starship Troopers, Valentine) and Mischa Barton (The Sixth Sense, The Malevolent, Homecoming) are set to star in The Toybox, a supernatural thriller from the team behind the 2016 horror pic ClownTown, reports Deadline.

The film follows a family who go on a cross-country trip across America and get stranded in the desert by a supernatural force that is slowly killing them off. Richards plays a mother stranded with her family in the desert, while Barton plays another traveler who joins the group and gets caught up in the otherworldly evil.

Tom Nagel will return at the helm on this film from a script he co-wrote with Jeff Denton.

Denton co-stars along with Brian Nagel, Greg Violand, Matt Mercer, Malika Michelle, David H. Greathouse, and Katie Keene.

Production is currently underway on the film.

According to my friend with IMDbPro, Mischa's character is called Samantha, and filming started on the 19th of this month, so she could well be on set right now.

Looks like Denise is wrapped. Mischa probably started later and will finish later than her?

Denise is playing one of the lead characters, and so likely to have had a much longer time on set, while Mischa is playing a supporting role. So Mischa has probably already finished her scenes.

We don't know how big a role Mischa has in this one, but we do know from other movies that she's often only there for a few days at most. My guess is that the group picture with Mischa and everyone else was her wrap photo.

Mischa does often get a deal with movies where they condense the filming of her scenes if she's playing a supporting role (which makes sense for everyone involved).

I'm not sure it's a case of Mischa getting a special deal as much as the Producer and the production accountant keeping an eye on the costs by not having her hanging around when she's not needed. Any Producer will be looking to minimize the costs by making best use of the available accommodation - Such as booking a room which will be used by one person (e.g. Mischa) for a few days while they film their scenes, and then taken over by someone else who is filming all of their scenes after the first person has finished theirs and vacated the room. That way, they save on the accommodation bills and other costs, which is vital for the kind of lower-budget things Mischa seems to be attracted to/being offered at the moment.

(When I was working as a magician's assistant, a lot of venues had rooms permanently booked at various hotels and motels, which were then used by whichever folks were playing at the venue that particular night. That way, the venues always knew where the acts they'd booked were staying and could get a special deal on the room rates, which helped with their costs of booking the acts.)
