I hope I can get in, lol. I have a test at 12:30. I've rearranged my work schedule so I don't have any assignments after noon. The event is at 5:30. I RSVPed on his website. But that's not a ticket, and sometimes lines start the night before.

I couldn't the last time he was in Charlotte, I was really disappointed. And no one even told us Biden was on campus last week until he was already gone, which I COULD have done and I would have loved to have seen Biden. I love Biden.

Do these visits to schools actually help? Aren't most College kids Democrats?

It hopefully helps them to vote. Kids don't vote, by and large. If they did, we'd never have another Republican, lol.

ETA: I have, in point of fact, already voted. *polishes nails* Voted for Kerry in 2004, too! But I'm a minority.

I don't really get why they don't make voting compulsory. Here you're fined if you don't vote after the age of 18.

But then the US is like 50 bazillion times larger and there are 40 bazillion small communities so I guess it would be too hard to monitor.

Its a shame that some people choose to skip it.

I think the problem is alot of people especially African Americans felt their votes did not count. Like I knew alot of friends who had cops harassed them in 2004 because they tried to go and vote.

The GOP would REALLY fight against this. They would use the reasoning of "big government" to do it, of it being too interfering in lives, but that's a joke coming from them given that government grew like 40% under Bush, more than any other single President in our history. It's because they couldn't use their voter suppression tricks if it were mandatory, of which there are many and most usually tie back to GOP. The historical suppression of the African-American vote is appalling, and I mean after it was made legal for them to vote (which historically, was not that long ago).

That said, it really would be a logistical nightmare, lol. And the systems are so different state to state (they totally are, having now voted in two states). Hell, we can't even figure out who's living in this country illegally, let alone figure out how to make every person vote. And with some systems, it may not be feasible. Not every state offers early voting, and not all colleges or jobs give the day off. The lines on voting day can take up to four hours. And then early voting is used as the reason why a day off isn't given, like with my college since they offered early voting here, and yet the lines were still incredibly long and one day had to align just right for me to have the time- I got out of one class early, I didn't have another because we don't have class on the day our take-home tests are due, and I didn't have any assignments until 5:30 at the earliest.
