It pisses me off that they're like, "We love them both and we know who she's gonna end up with!" WTF? Then end this thing and spare 50% of the other ships fanbase. Hell!

I think they should give signs to the couple it will ultimately be. They already set a date for when the show ends. Who cares?

I would agree if they needed the ratings and if the show wasn't ending in like, 2 seasons, anyway. LOL.

They do need the ratings. Lost has never gotten back the kind of ratings it had in S1/earlier S2. And while the ratings right now are respectable, the show is VERY expensive to produce and they really can't afford to have them crash by crushing viewers' hopes. ABC wouldn't be above pulling it sooner if it really started bleeding cash. I think Lost is more expensive even than GA to produce, because of where it films. I think ratings are EXACTLY why they haven't- and won't- end this triangle.

We look at ratings and think "Well, those are good"- but how expensive shows are to produce should always be kept in mind. One of the reasons VM stayed on for three years was that it was DIRT cheap to produce. Of the "credited" cast members, only Enrico, Kristen, and Jason were really PAID like regulars; everyone else was treated like a recurring. Kristen and Jason didn't make much for their regular salary. Sets were dirt cheap. I've heard FNL is also not expensive to produce, which works in its favor. Lost has a large cast, all of whom I think are paid as regulars even if they're not in every single episode, most of them particularly the originals are paid pretty well (especially Matthew Fox), and the filming location, particularly given all the weather problems, requires a very high budget. ABC is basically paying for the kind of ratings they got in S1, they're tolerating these ratings, but they will NOT tolerate it if they crash. If they were to end the triangle this season and ratings plummet, ABC will not give them their final season. It's not financially worth it to them.

This should be kept in mind for GA as well, as an aside. What's mainly expensive with GA is the cast, but the cast IS expensive, and I doubt they appreciate the ratings post-strike. GA ratings really need to rise, and DEFINITELY can't afford to fall.
