Well, where was his tombstone? Was Sun standing by it in her flash forward? Because let's say Jin died on the island prior to Sun getting off of it. The people who got off the island clearly made some kind of pact to lie about the crash- Sun claiming Jin died months after getting on the island wouldn't make any sense, would it? She'd have to stick to the story that he died in the crash, and put that date on his tombstone. That's assuming his tombstone is with her in the flash forward, though.

Yes, it was in the flash forward, and that could be one theory. That she had to stick to the story even though he...you know...right before she got off.

BUT, it could also mean he's still on the island.
