Like, I'm genuinely not sure Josh did that because he cared. LOL. Although Marissa didn't make a great figure in a love triangle either as the center or as one of the sides. She had bad taste in most guys, lol, and also, Josh couldn't NOT write Ryan as a martyr where she was concerned. And when she was like, one of the possible choices, Marissa didn't get catty or mean. Which I love about her, that she knew to bow out gracefully, but it's hard to build a triangle around it. Because she just goes "Well, I guess he wants to be with you now, so I'm going to support that."

I think show runners mistake loud hatred for "Wow, so invested!" I always try to tell people, just...don't. This is a fire. Fandom bickering gives it oxygen, lol.
