| Mischa Sighting - 6 November, 2007 Modest Mouse was set to play in Convention Hall (downstairs at the Conexus Arts Centre). I got off work early, and Erin ended up being the victim of time change, so we didn't end up going til 9:30. Which worked out great because doors didn't open til 8 p.m. and there were two openers. Erin decides she's gotta use the ladies' room, so I hold our spots and she dashed off, hoping not to miss the beginning. She comes back 5 minutes later, excited having overheard a conversation in the bathroom between two girls: Mishca Barton (read: Marissa Cooper from the O.C.) is in the building and one of them had just met her. We knew she was in town filming a movie, but it never really crossed my mind that she'd be there. Intriguing. At 12:20 a.m. or so, Modest Mouse was playing the last song of their encore, and I saw Kelsey, a photographer at the Carillon who's got a love for celebrities and pop culture and it's actually kind of fun. When she heard Mischa Barton was in town, it seriously compromised the story meeting conversation for a good 20 minutes because her and another editor were happily discussing ways to find/meet her. So I wandered over to Kelsey who was on the side, standing by the area that was curtained off for the band, and I told her that I heard Barton was in the building. Her response? "I'm standing right next to her, she's on the other side of this curtain thing." So we peak through the little dividers and sure enough, there she is, watching the end of the show. So we waited til she turned around to see her face, because really we had to be sure, and when she did, I kind of dashed off, because I was on the verge of falling over from not being able to move, and, well, really, we were being kind of creepy. Erin kept peaking in random curtains the whole way out, getting little glimpses while she could, me pulling her away to leave the poor girl alone. What. A. Night. I just found out Kelsey managed to snap a photo of Barton, so I asked her to email it to me so I can keep it for, you know, memories (or bragging, whichever really). | Exclusive: Morgan J. Freeman's Homecoming On Friday, I reconnected with an old pal, director Morgan J. Freeman. I hadn't been in contact with Morgan for years, since he and actress Michelle Williams kindly consented to write for me when I was at Sony. Morgan's first big indie film, Hurricane Streets, won more awards at Sundance than any other film. Now, the director is in Pittsburgh where he's in preproduction for a movie called Homecoming. It will star Mischa Barton and is co-written by Katie Fetting and Frank Hannah (who wrote the strange and fascinating The Cooler). Morgan told me that the movie is a scary thriller along the lines of Misery. In it, Mischa takes her ex boyfriend's new girlfriend hostage. But, according to Freeman, he'll ground the story in reality so that the movie "truly terrifies." Sounds like Mischa can truly stretch and show her chops as a bad girl in this one. Filming begins on December 10th and runs through late January. Go Morgan! (I hope they get a day or so off for the holidays.) He meets Jessica (Smart), who is eager to rekindle her passion for dancing with her workaholic fiance. Instead, the two pair up for the world championship of swing competish.
