You know, JK Rowling was largely panned for refusing to edit her epilogue that she had clearly written around the time of the first book, lol. You'd think that'd be a lesson. I guess not.

More than HIMYM, but she had evolved so much as a writer and it was clear the epilogue had not been written with her, erm, current talent level. LOL. And it got panned for the most part, and yet writers continue to cling to the idea that it's a good idea to not allow your project to grow.

I don't think it's a bad idea to have a basic concept of an endgame as long as some flexibility is allowed for growth. The one time I understood a pre-filmed ending was Reign, because Mary of Scots...you know, dies the way she dies, so a dream sequence with the husband she really did seem to love the most wasn't a bad achoice.

Didn't help the HIMYM writers were flexibility up to the finale, which really hurt their endgame.
