Mischa has recently finished filming this movie in Russia; it's set to be released sometime next year.

Mischa Barton to star in Joffe's 't.A.T.u.'

LONDON -- Mischa Barton will star in Roland Joffe's Russian coming-of-age drama "Finding t.A.T.u," which starts shooting in Moscow later this month.
The movie is adapted from the novel "t.A.T.u come back" by Russian writer A. Mitrofanov.

Set against a background of music, Internet chatrooms and hedonistic Russian nightlife, it's the story of a lonely American teenager in Moscow who becomes friends with a local girl over their shared obsession with pop band t.A.T.u.

Cast also includes Shantel VanSanten, Anton Yelchin, Alex Kaluzhsky and Helena Mattsson.

Producers are Leonid Minkovski and Serge Konov from Mosfilm-based shingle RAMCO, and Stephen Nemeth of Rhino Films. Foresight Unlimited is handling international sales.

I was in the News thread and was like "Hmmm, this talk should go in the movie thread"- and then I realized there was none, lol.

As I was saying in the news thread, I like the concept of the role- it's the band in particular that's holding me back.

If Captivity is a successful film they could potentially sell the movie in the US with the "from the Director of" and "Starring Mischa Barton" trademarks. With a relatively small budget as well, it will likely be an indie.

Sam, that's a really good question. Why couldn't it just be Tatu or tatu without the dots, lol.

I think the T.a.t.u is can really affect the film. I''m thinking they could be just using that as something for now, and once the movie is ready to be promoted to international audiences, they'll rebrand it. And make the T.a.t.u thing a lot more minor in terms of plot and relevance. Because I doubt anyone knows them or cares, lol.

Yeah as for tatu they were very famous in Italy at their beginning (1st cd period) but mostly because they shared a lip kiss on stage during a music show and it was SUCH A SCANDAL!!!!

I found something as regard the name of the band

The abbreviation t.A.T.u. is translated TATУ in Russian alphabet. When the band became popular abroad they discovered that there was already another one with the same name, hence the decision to use the latin alphabet and the choice of t.A.T.u.
The expression t.A.T.u. (ta ljubit tu) is a Russian pun which means "she loves her".

Depending on how much the band is in the movie, I might actually RECOMMEND a name change for the US, lol.

A name change for everywhere but Russia would be beneficial. Seriously, why would you name a movie after a band that at best had two known songs.

But I should refrain from the bashing lol.
