Moving onto The Best Chrismukkah Ever. This is one where I wish we had caps of all of Marissa's scenes because she has some great scenes with her parents, but what are you gonna do.

Brief description: Marissa is notably unhappy at the beginning of this episode, suggesting to their father that they skip Christmas. She seems to cheer up as she and Ryan go Christmas shopping together, but as they're leaving the mall it's discovered Marissa was shoplifting. Her parents confront her about it; Marissa doesn't seem to have a clear cut answer although she's obviously resentful of her mother in particular. Her mother demands she go to therapy. She complains about this to Ryan as they get ready for a Christmas party, but then sends him upstairs so she can sneak a bottle of vodka in her purse. After she and her mother have yet another confrontation at the party, she hides in the bathroom and gets drunk. Ryan is upset when he realizes she's drunk and they have a fight at the party. Marissa attempts to leave, but backs into another car and allows Ryan to take over the wheel. She drinks in the car and after they narrowly escape getting caught by a policeman, Ryan breaks down and throws the bottle into the bushes, then slams her car door open and shut in her face several times. He tells her he can't do this anymore and she agrees to get help. On her first visit to the therapist, she meets a strange boy named Oliver.

As a side note, this is one of Mischa's favorite episodes.

I adore the cap of her kissing him in front of the makeup mirror...I found that whole "Strolling through the mall" montage so friggin' adorable! I loved when she was in those really high shoes, and towered over him, and he did the shrinking thing, too cute!

i loved that episode!!

i loved when ryan stops the car and starts freaking out, and marissa's like: "ryan! stop, you're scaring me!" then ryan says: "GOOD!! cuz you're scaring me!" and he says that in a worried voice.

i thought that was awesome!

I love this episode. I love it when Ryan and Marissa fight 'cause I'm weird like that. The ATTITUDE Drunk!Marissa! was giving him perversely made me crack up, and this was his ultimate "Woman" look. Heee. I love the scene where he breaks down and starts slamming the car door, and that seeing what she's doing to him finally urges Marissa to get help. Le sigh.

What's interesting is if you watch this scene with Marissa and Julie, then watch one from S2 or S3. For all Marissa's attitude, Julie still clearly holds the power in the relationship here. That flips in S2.

Mischa's brilliant in this one!

When I first saw the epsiode, I totally didn't see the shoplifting thing coming. I was clueless.

Great Spooner scenes! I love when they went to the mall and Marissa was trying on shoes. And I really loved the "You scaring me" scene.
