He had this weird notion with Marissa, like her path was inevitable. But he was writing it! LOL. He could have changed course at any time.

Well, I've said it so many times- his claim about Marissa having "tragedy in her DNA" is outright offensive. Marissa was a depressed teenage girl who had limited support at best. Are all girls like that- and there are so many- doomed to die?

That comment is pretty offensive and he probably would have gotten more trouble for it if he said that today.

I SO wish he had, lol. I wish Marissa had aired in the age of Tumblr, which tends to be more protective of female characters.

Yeah, definitely lol. I'm sure some male characters would get away with some things they did if that aired today too.

I've always said the backlash to the Oliver thing might not have been as extreme. It was poorly written, but there were definite indications Ryan wasn't simply a victim. He was right about Oliver- but going about proving it in the wrong way, basically looking like Oliver's slightly less crazy cousin. But they SO overdid Oliver's creepiness, that Marissa had to basically be unconscious to miss it. Still, it doesn't justify the extreme reaction against her on the basis of poorpoor Ryan.
