Aw, she wasn't my first, but she was definitely one of the biggest ones, lol. And in general, I think if you stop enjoying a show for whatever reason- and killing off your favorite character is definitely a big reason- then you don't owe it your loyalty and the tendency in fandoms to shame other fans for not watching anymore is pretty ridiculous. "If you only liked one character, then you weren't a real fan!!" ...Okay? LOL. Alas, Nielson boxes don't count "real" fans that way.

I think Buffy was probably my first big female character obsession, but there was a sense of going to war for Marissa that took it to another level.

Mine was probably Brenda on 90210, but Buffy was definitely special. And even though I never drank or anything like that, I wasn't necessarily a happy high schooler. I struggled emotionally. And I related to Marissa that way, which is why I found it so egregious that Josh would claim "tragedy is in her DNA". I actually still wish he would apologize for that, because it's an AWFUL message to send to troubled teenage girls.

Yeah, stuff like that would get checked so much faster these days.

Lead females unfortunately definitely seem to be more likely to be on the chopping block still, but I think Josh would have gotten a more public backlash for "tragedy in her DNA." Twitter and especially Tumblr would have made sure of it, lol.

The Ex Factor. It was the episode where Ryan exploded at Marissa when Lindsay got drunk.

I haven't watched a whole episode in years, I don't think. It's on Hulu now, right?

Not sure, it's on Stan (an Australian counterpart to Netflix) but I don't know whether it's on Hulu or not.
