Producers Michael Pierce and Mark Williams ("Flawless") have struck a deal with Stephen Margolis' London-based production and finance outfit Future Films to make Simon Fellows' "Malice in Sunderland," Future said Saturday.

Billed as a contemporary take on Lewis Carroll's classic tale "Alice in Wonderland," the movie is scheduled to shoot next year.

The film stars Mischa Barton as the modern-day Alice and will be directed by Fellows ("Second in Command") from a script by Jayson Rothwell.

Future's involvement will see the company co-produce the title as well as advise the producers as they negotiate their way through the new tax credit system available for filming in the U.K., the company said.

"Malice" details the story of an American student who finds herself disoriented in Sunderland after being hit by a taxi.

Future is also co-financing the film unit of U.K. broadcaster Film4, Intandem and U.K. Film Council-backed movie "When Did You Last See Your Father?" and Belgium production "Angel's Choice," produced by Jean-Luc Van Damme at Banana Films.

Future Films is a specialist production company that provides access to international financing, assists in the final packaging of films and provides a wide range of production services.

This sounds so quirky and so Mischa. And it'll film in the UK, and she seems a little more comfortable there.

This is SO AWESOME! What a great project for Mischa! I read Alice and Wonderland so many freakin' times in grammar school. This take on it seems pretty interesting and definitely very Mischa. It's great to get some movie news.

I was reading IMDB...what if the problem with Hexxx is the state of New Orleans? I can't believe I didn't even think of that. If they're filming there, and I assume they would because you can't create New Orleans, you just gotta be there lol, the place is still a MESS. I wonder if that's what's stalled production SO much.

Also, I can't wait to see Mischa in the UK for THIS movie. Heh.

Good point about NO. The fact that the casting is being worked on seems to indicate that things are moving again so that's good. At least we know the project is still alive.

Before she heads off to the UK. We still need to work on cloning technology.
