That was an awful mistake- he died way too soon in the show, and in a way that should never have happened given that Dan stayed until the second to last episode.

It would have been better if Lucas was an adult, especially since Mark wasn't exactly skilled at writing for grief. He wanted to skip over the nitty-gritty, which is extra sloppy with a teenager.

Agreed, plus it would have given Chad time to work on his crying lol. But I always felt that Chad had problems connecting with that arc along with the HCM one.

He definitely struggled with the HCM, which I always felt was partially to deal with the fact that Chad just wasn't as good at basketball as James, lol.

Agreed They could have used the shoulder injury he got in the car accident though

They could have. I fractured my elbow recently, and it's good that I don't play sports, lol, because I basically may never get my full range of motion back.

Plus I think it was mentioned it was a pretty bad injury from memory

It was supposed to be. It would have been enough. It was obvious in the pilot James was much better.

It really was, that's why I don't get why they didn't go with the shoulder injury.
