I think it was Josh buying into this notion that Marissa wasn't really worthy of Ryan. Which, incidentally, I don't think he believed she wasn't worthy of Alex, so Alex seemed more into her.

Possibly Alex, lol. I mean, Ryan was certainly the most profound, and the love of her life. But I think an argument can be made that Alex really cared for her and wanted the best for her, and wasn't tied up in whatever resentment of the week was going on.

I really wished Alex had been around longer, and if they WERE going to put Ryan and Marissa back together, I wish he would have had more of a reaction to the fact that she was no longer fooling around with the "pool boy" (a fairly racist take on the character of DJ, incidentally) but in a relationship with a good person who cared about her.

And I think now, a more nuanced exploration of Marissa's sexuality would happen.
