I know right? Don't you like how some US media like to spin it as a flop...when many artists never even sell that much and are considered to be doing pretty good?

I think that's what I loved the most about it too. Just casual Kelly and her friends.

Also, Metal Skool FINALLY put up their second video of Kelly singing with them. It took them 2 years but it's very cool

Kelly will be singing for the Pope on April 29th. And she will be singing some of her songs too;

Quote:
It has been reported that Kelly Clarkson who was the winner of the first season of American Idol will sing for Pope Benedict XVI during his six-day visit to the United States in April.

According to Joseph Zwilling who is the spokesman for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York, Kelly will perform a few of her songs at a youth rally at St. Joseph’s Seminary in Yonkers on the 19th April, as well as Ave Maria after the pope arrives.

Kelly said that “I was so excited to be asked to sing for the pope I grew up singing church music, and it’s always been a dream of mine to perform Ave Maria. To have that dream come true on such a special occasion is truly a blessing.”

Kelly reschedules Apollo show - Rock and pop - Music - Entertainment - Manchester Evening News

Quote:
Kelly reschedules Apollo show
Sarah Walters
24/ 3/2008

AMERICAN Idol favourite, Kelly Clarkson, has rearranged her recent Apollo show.

The US star was due to play the Apollo for a second time on March 15, but had to pull it due to laryngitis.

The singer will now return to the venue on April 8, original tickets remain valid.

Below is a recent interview with her:

SITTING in the miserable Manchester drizzle, it's hard to empathise with the enthusiastic Kelly Clarkson as she proclaims a love for the city unrivalled even by its own residents.

"God, I love Manchester," howls Kelly, her Texan accent still plump and pronounced. "Manchester always comes out for us, it is one of my biggest audiences. That's why we're starting the tour there, Manchester will get it all going.

"I've always loved travelling and coming over here. I like touring, but I tour so much in America that it's good to bring my shows over here.

"We're doing so many dates this time because it's my favourite part of my job, being with the fans and the band. I love living on the road, away from all the nonsense of the industry."

To give the city its dues, Manchester, where her 11-date tour begins in March, has supported Kelly since she won the landmark first series of American Idol in 2002. It seems far longer ago that she started on the road to pop stardom - a journey that's seen her sell more than 10m albums and scoop a bucketload of awards and famous fans along the way.

Consequently, her position as pop royalty keeps her busy, and our allocated slot to chew the fat on life as the TV talent show's biggest success story is an unsurprisingly short eight minutes. She's here to talk about her latest British tour, to promote last year's My December album. Yes, that'll be the one she famously penned on her own, sticking two fingers up to her producer Clive Davis (Justin Timberlake, Whitney Houston) after he warned her it would be the death of her.

Brief natter

If the queue of journalists waiting for their equally brief natter with the two-time Grammy award winning artist is anything to go by, though, interest in Kelly hasn't waned one iota. She says (with a sense of weary necessity) that she spends a lot of time doing promotion, but never the idle Idol she's already put in most of the groundwork for album four. Early reports are that it's set to take her back to her country music roots.

"Even when I was touring my first record, we were working on the next album. What's funny about my CDs and putting them together is you never know what the end product will sound like.

"I grew up with quite a lot of influences, and I'm always trying to reflect that." Making album four is nothing to be sniffed at in the world of reality TV show winners.

She is, in fact, the first Idol contestant to make it this far (season two runner-up, Clay Aiken's `fourth' was in fact a four-track EP of Christmas songs) and is over two million sales clear of her nearest Idol rival, season four winner Carrie Underwood.

But if you want a bona fide sign she's really made it, you only need to clock up the inches she's commanded in the gossip columns.

The 25-year-old has faced a pasting over her alleged weight problem and her celebrity boyfriends, most notably Evanescence's David Hodges, Fall Out Boy's Patrick Stump and singer songwriter Graham Colton, whose band toured with Kelly in 2005.

Footwear fettish

But the hottest topic of all? Erm... her footwear fetish. Today, Kelly is quiet about body image and boyfriends, but she does confess to an unhealthy obsession with shoes.

"I love shoes because they don't get bigger or smaller," she says, brushing over the subject with a nervous chuckle. Perhaps it's a little more revealing than she means it to be.

For better or worse, though, celebrity gossip columns are the bad aftertaste of Idol. The advantages? A fast foot-up to the big time, but does the accolade become a noose?

The transition from CD-shifting chart fodder to respected writer is never an easy divide to leap across, and Kelly's album sales alone show it: debut Thankful shifted over three million, her sophomore album, Breakaway, sold nearly six million worldwide. So far, My December has struggled to meet the million mark.

"I don't regret Idol. Anybody would be an idiot to say otherwise, to perform in front of millions of people and have an audience before you've made an album, you can't say you wouldn't want that kind of opportunity.

"The people I've worked with got into music because they love music. I've been lucky," she pauses. "But it is very good to be myself."

And as we hop off the Kelly Clarkson media rollercoaster, we've just one last burning question: when you win a show watched by 23m viewers in America alone, where on earth do you find a bolthole from the showbiz madness?

"Home," smiles Kelly. "That's the one place where I'm not famous. Where I can just be dumb, little Kelly."

Kelly Clarkson plays the Apollo on Tuesday, April 8. Rescheduled date from March 15. Click here to buy tickets.

Kelly’s eyeing a visit to her Welsh ‘roots’! - icWales

Kelly's eyeing a visit to her Welsh 'roots'!Mar 28 2008 by Cathy Owen, South Wales Echo
JUST because you are of Welsh descent doesn't necessarily mean you know where Wales is.
Unlike the majority of her fellow Americans The Osmonds, Kelly Clarkson knows very little about her Welsh connections and says she is looking forward to coming to "Cardiff, England" on her forthcoming UK tour.
She thinks it might be a grandfather or great-grandfather who came from Wales but she isn't exactly sure, and she has no idea where in Wales they may have come from.
"My dad has a big family tree done out but I am not sure about who came from Wales," she admitted in her sweet Texan drawl.
When you learn a little more about the first American Idol winner's upbringing, the reluctance to discover her Welsh roots becomes a bit clearer.
When Clarkson was six years old and living in the little Texan town of Burleson, her parents split up after 17 years of marriage.
As a result, her brother Jason went to live with their engineer father Stephen, her sister Jeanne Ann Rose went to live with an aunt, and Kelly remained with her mother Jeanne Ann Rose.
Growing up, Kelly's family had a hard time financially and her music became her refuge.
"But," she explains, "I didn't sing properly until one day a teacher heard me singing in the corridor and invited me to join the school choir."
But her really big break came in 2002 when she won the first season of American Idol, America's hugely popular equivalent to Pop Idol and the X Factor, earning 58 per cent of the audience vote over Justin Guarini in the final.
Since then, Kelly, 25, has sold more than 16 million albums worldwide, won Grammy Awards, American Music Awards and 11 Billboard Music Awards and is still a big star in her homeland.
She believes it was fate, and that her success came about thanks to her Los Angeles flat burning down.
"I was living in LA, working as a waitress and my flat burned down so I had to go home," said Clarkson, who refused a university place because she had such belief in her own songs.
"Most people would have been really upset but I was laughing about it at the time saying it must have happened for a reason.
"There had to be a reason for it happening."
And the reason became clear later, after a friend at home persuaded her to go along to a singing audition in Texas.
"I didn't even realise until the third audition that it was for a television programme," said Clarkson who had a huge hit with A Moment Like This, the song she performed in the final.
"And I never imagined it would be so big or that I would win."
Kelly says the reason for her continued success when it can elude so many of these talent show competition winners - hands up who remembers X Factor's Steve Brookstein - is because she has always kept music as her first love.
"I don't pay too much attention to what people say about me," she offers.
"I just love music and I always keep that my number one priority."
And as for her UK tour.
"I love touring and I love coming over to see the beautiful countryside and all the historical places," she says of her upcoming visit to the Welsh capital.
And you never know, when she is in Cardiff she might do a little bit of detective work because for now she still says of her trip to South Wales, "I can't wait to come to England."
It's in South Wales, Kelly. The clue is in the name.
Kelly Clarkson performs at Cardiff International Arena on Saturday, March 29. Tickets cost £26 from the box office on 029 2022 4488.
