The Kelly and RCA discussion thread - cause it's a battle for artistic integrity...

i thought we could have a debate thread about this. it feels like this battle is never ending and i am a bit saddened by the new turns of events.

i hope it's ok to start this thread. i'm just veru curious as to what everyone's thoughts are on this battling duo. who do you think is right and why? what do you think of the new development in the whole thing? with clive saying he's happy to "take kelly back on track" as if she was a stray cat or something?

let's debate!

honestly, I really can't believe Kelly and rca have a future together...I mean really, who would want to be at a label when there's obviously no respect being shown to you...oddly enough the early BA days don't look so bad compared to now.

I think this is a very interesting thread. I'm all for this debate.

I really have so much to say on the topic though that it's much too late right now for me to get into it.

Maybe we should recap what was said and done by both parties for those who may not know it all and would like to join in the discussion...?

In my opinion, I think the label/Clive etc were/are nervous that she's gaining more creative control. Her first album was more pop/r&b/soul. She just came out of AI so they somewhat molded her. It was like that album was handed to her. Now with each album she has released, she has brought out more of her interests. The men in suits fear artists straying away from what's safe--what they think will sale. I'm glad she is becoming a better artist and fighting for her music.

Face it. Clive doesnt't care if the album shows any qualities of soul or music. What he wants is a definite best seller, which makes him money. He is an 80 year old with nothing better to but slag off Kelly's great work! Hes a hippie.

I comnpletely agree. I think that it's not just Clive at this point - it's everyone in the industry that's become afraid of change. The music industry is going down the drain by the minute as far as CD sales go. So they want to stick with what works...

I feel like there is a fear to explore nowadays and it's too bad that someone like Clive Davis, who has been so great to so many artists in the past, would stand in the way of Kelly doing just that.

I think if it hadn't been for all the bad press and bad word from Clive, this album could have done extremely well on its onwn merits.

I still don't understand why Clive would have made public complaints! As you said, it's just damaged the sales of the album. I reckon this album would already be platnium in at least 3 countries if hadn't have recieved such unessecary critism!

Well, one way or another, Clive Davis comes out on top, looking like the little savior to Kelly Clarkson's career.

He purposely bad mouthed the album and did not back it, somewhat making it a "failure" in the eyes of the media because it wasn't a blockbuster hit, and then will most likely get her to do things his way next album - an album he will support wholeheartedly and promote, hence selling more than MD. And in the eyes of the media this will make Clive Davis look like Kelly's rescuer.

I just hate the swcenario but it's looking likely to play out this way.

i hate that it will be made to look that way too.

do we know who started this whole mess in the first place? like who leaked it to the media? was it kelly who spoke about her discontentment first?

It's really just a series of unfortunate events, really. I think it's just damaged the sales and public image of Kelly to unfans.

Maybe, it was all planned in an ingenious ploy to ensure of guarranted success for the next album.

the music industry is a dirty dirty place and when someone tries to cleanse themselves of it they end up getting railroaded...but no matter what happens with the next album we all know it will be something Kelly is behind and supports. Kelly has never been one to compromise herself and she sure won't do it working on the next album.

I'm sure that Kelly will find her feet over the coarse of the next couple of weeks, possibly, even record a new, smash hit for her new album.

I hope, and believe, that Kelly won't be optimistically drained by Clive Davis.

But as you said, the music industry is tough so who knows what will happen.

Have faith in Kelly. Whatever the deal is and whatever reason Clive has to dislike her so much (God knows why) I am sure it will all be fine in the end.
