Thanks for starting the thread Amelia

I don't really see what is so complicated about the system here  :P. It just is various levels which I guess is a bit complicated & I probably worded it in a complicated way but as I said mostly those levels are just different restrictions - mostly put in place because young drivers can't be trusted

Here you can get your Ls when you're 16 & just need to pass a computer test to get them. You can't drive before that, & you don't need to do any study to do the test. You may need to though, so you can pass it but its not a requirement or class you can do. Its also not taught in school. Then once you're on your Ls you don't have to do any lessons, you just need to have a fully licensed driver with you at all times & they're teaching you to drive. Then if you're under 25 you need to hold your Ls for 12 months & complete 120 hours before you can try to pass the next tests & get your first Ps. Its at that point we do our driving test as you're not legally allowed to drive until you hold your Ls so they can't test that before then. After that its literally just different restrictions (or conditions they call them I just saw on my information booklet :P) for each of the license levels. Mostly to keep young & inexperienced drivers from doing stupid things, or you can see it as slowly we work our way up to being able to do what fully licensed drivers can

Learner License conditions:
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- Max speed of 90 kilometres per hour (this one used to be lower, 80 I think it was?)
- No towing anything
- No alcohol in your blood
- No mobile phone use
- Must have fully licensed driver with you at all times

P1 Provisional License conditions:
- Must be at least 17 years of age
- Max speed of 90 kilometres per hour
- No alcohol in your blood
- No mobile phone use
- Can tow trailers with up to 250 kilograms of unloaded weight
- If you passed the driving test in an automatic vehicle you can only drive an automatic vehicle
- Can only have one passenger under the age of 21 between 11pm & 5am [Exemptions can be provided for this rule]

P2 Provisional License conditions:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Max speed of 100 kilometres per hour
- No alcohol in your blood
- No mobile phone use

Once you've got your full license (which you need to be at least 20 years old to get) I think its 0.4 alcohol in your blood that you're allowed, & you just need to not go over the speed limit when it comes to speeds :P. Mobile phone use I'm not sure on the exact rules for. To be honest thought the P2 license really isn't much of anything at all now :look: Just removes some of the conditions & increases the speed

I'm sure it still sounds complicated though . To me yes it has lots of stages, but its just for safety purposes, not necessarily complicated? I like it  To answer 'do I have a license yet' though yes I do have one, technically, I just can't do much with it since I don't know how to drive & need someone with me until I can pass my driving test :P. Once I pass my driving test I'll be a licensed enough driver to drive on my own  Just need to wait :(. Second lesson tomorrow though :wiggle:

18 sounds so young still to say you don't need a coach still . Guess its just then because you're an adult? :look: Then your exam would teach things while for us we can know absolutely nothing when we first get our Ls (bit like me :P)

heartღaflutter 10-18-2019 10:36 AM

Thanks for the new thread! :yay: Love the title

wow what a set of levels!

well you most take about 25-30 lessons before you take an exam, you have to be able to drive on a highway, make turns properly.. turn the care in 3 times and I don't even know what else you have to do.
For trailers and such we need a different license.

shinebrighterxx 10-18-2019 12:16 PM

Sounds a bit like our driving test. So sounds like the basics are similar we just take longer to let people drive alone & no one can drive alone until the pass the driving test

Then we just like giving people things a little bit at a time

I had a weird dream that I went to one of my old high schools but it had been knocked down & rebuilt & modernised :look:

kiss the wind 10-18-2019 08:37 PM

Chelle, since you are older do you automatically skip to the PL levels, or do you still need your Ls first? Like can you progress through the levels quicker?

I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend! I have no plans, tbh.

shinebrighterxx 10-18-2019 08:46 PM

Yes & no. No one can skip the Ls*, the rules however change. Anyone under 25 has to do the 120 hours (which includes completing a log book proving it) of driving & hold the Ls before they can attempt the tests to get onto the Ps levels. Anyone over 25 simply needs to gain enough knowledge/experience to attempt the tests to get onto the Ps levels. So as soon as I have that I can attempt them regardless of how often (or little) I've actually driven or how long I've been on my Ls. That's the only quicker progression as after that you need to remain on your Ps for the time limits based on them regardless of your age (minimum 12 months for P1, minimum 24 months for P2)

* well converting licenses from other countries do, but that's a different topic :P

kiss the wind 10-18-2019 08:54 PM

Ah, okay, that's fair. I think it's good to have a decent amount of hours, 120 is quite a lot but like somewhere between 30-50 is good, especially on the different types of roads. Back roads, highways, main city streets, etc.

My back hurts so much from my hike. Which is not the part of my body that should hurt right now.

shinebrighterxx 10-18-2019 09:19 PM

It is quite a bit, I know it used to be lower (can't remember now what it was) & increased around 10-15 years ago. Think its been increased a couple of times tbh. But when you think about it to complete 120 hours in 12 months that's only 10 hours of driving in one month. Within the 120 hours - at least 20 of those hours must be done at night too. They also like you to be able to get experience driving in both city environments & country environments if you can (which are completely different). I've never really looked at a log book so not sure if there's other things you've got to tick of saying that you've done. I'm pretty sure the night hours are the only legal requirements though. The rest is just recommended so you have a range of different experiences.

There is a way around the 120 hours as if you do have lessons. So by having a 1 hour driving lesson with a professional driving instructor that can count towards 3 hours in total for your logbook. You can do that 10 times for a max of 30 hours so instead of doing 120 hours you may only do 90 hours of driving if you do it that way.

That's not good & concerning being your back . Hope you've just pulled a muscle or something & feeling it in your back

heartღaflutter 10-19-2019 04:59 AM

feel better soon Amelia!

It's a work weekend for me! Leaving in a few minutes! :)

shinebrighterxx 10-19-2019 05:01 PM

Hope work isn't too busy

kiss the wind 10-19-2019 05:17 PM

I hope work was alright, Karen!

Oh, that's nice! And yeah, only 10 a month overall is easy, you can probably get it done even a lot faster than that!

Just a relaxing day for me today, it's a bit chilly outside. I spent some time with my mom, now I'm just at home with the cat and some Netflix.

shinebrighterxx 10-19-2019 05:20 PM

Sounds like a nice day, enjoy :)

My plans for today involve my NCIS DVDs & card making once I've finished posting. Meeting up with some co-workers tonight too as a goodbye for one who finished up earlier this week

Exactly. But unfortunately for all the ones who have to do 120 hours still need to wait the 12 months regardless so doing it faster won't mean much for them. Just means they can get even more experience before progressing on
I'm just glad I don't have to worry about either thing on top of learning how to drive. That's confusing enough for me

kiss the wind 10-19-2019 07:14 PM

Yeah, driving is scary enough without all the rules lol.

card making
That sounds fun! I would enjoy that, I should do that.

I really hate when I give into my cravings. I just ate so much pasta after promising to myself that I would only eat a bit of my salmon for dinner. I want to kick myself. Especially because I didn't work out today cause I wanted to do a day of rest. Guess I have to start all over tomorrow.

heartღaflutter 10-20-2019 03:33 AM

Sounds like a good day Amelia!
What are you currently watching on Netflix?

have fun Chelle on that goodbye party!

awww Amellia
I hate cravings too! But in the end they are so good too!! I ate half a Tony Chocolonely bar this week  those things are addictive..
