When I was a kid, if I got sick or hurt at school, it was my grandma who used to come and pick me up most of the time. I can remember her taking me to her home, bundling me up on the couch and fixing me soup and crackers (even if I just had a nosebleed or pink eye). We would spend the afternoon playing tv game shows together like The Price Is Right, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy or Family Feud. She would have me do my homework and when I was finished I could "help" her with her crossword puzzles or see who could finish a word search the fastest. I can remember her sitting at the organ the first time I prayed in front of the church, recited Dr. King's I Have A Dream speech, and the first and last time I sang a solo. I can remember Sunday dinners, camping trips and holidays with my sweet Sadye. I can remember hugging her when my Grandpa passed. I never dreamed I would see a day that I would wonder if my Grandma could remember the moments I cherished with her. Or if she even knew me when I held her hand and kissed her face. One thing I do know for sure, is that she loved her family with all of her heart, no matter what. Her faith, wisdom, dignity and unconditional love will always be with me. I thank God for all the love, life and memories I've shared with my Grandma. On the day she met her great-grandson, Percy Daggs IV, I knew that she knew exactly who was kissing her lovely face. Today, September 30th, 2013, my beloved Grandma, Sadye Daggs, went home to be with the Lord and Percy Sr., after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. She will be deeply missed, and forever loved. I'm walking in her memory, for my family, and for all of the families who have ever loved or known someone with this terrible disease. I'm walking to help reclaim the future for millions. By participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's, I'm committed to raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer research, care and support.

Currently, more than 5 million Americans have Alzheimer's and that number is expected to grow to as many as 16 million by 2050. Our future is at risk unless we can find a way to change the course of this disease.

I would be deeply grateful if you would be willing to donate to this cause that is in much need of your support. Please make a donation to help the Alzheimer's Association advance research into prevention, treatments and a cure for Alzheimer's.
