The Mystery of Lianne Mars

So here's what we know for certain:

After Lilly died, Lianne left town. Veronica thought it was just because she was weak, but then quickly discovered that her mother was moving from town to town becuase someone had blackmailed her into leaving by sending her pictures of Veronica with a sniper target over her face.

Those pictures were sent by Clarence Weidman, the same man who made the Koontz call. He is the head of Kane Security.

Why do you guys think this is happening? This is my theory:

I think Celeste, not Jake, got in contact with Clarence Weidman, pretending like she was calling with Jake’s orders, and had him take the pictures to scare Lianne away because A)She knows something about the murder (this is tied to my Celeste is the murder theory) or B)She’s just plain jealous. Remember in “An Echolls Family Christmas” after Veronica confronted Jake, he ran out to Celeste and was like, “What did you do!”

Let's discuss. :D

Just thought I'd bump this since we got a new development about Lianne on Tuesday. :)

Good idea.

She seemed so scared for Veronica when she realised that her daughter had found her. Then Veronica seeing Weidman at the bar gave me chills. I think she's just beginning to realise the danger that's involved with her mother and the solving of Lilly's murder.

I'm just wondering what's going on... Lianne looked like a bum. She sounded terrible... is Clarence Weidman tailing her everywhere?

She looked like she'd been through hell... the poor woman. :(

Yeah, something must have happened recently. She looked (semi) normal during the phone call scene to Veronica earlier in the season.

Such a huge Question Mark.

My sister initially thought she killed Lilly and left town ... and now, there isn't much evidence to support that.

I'll admit, I never really cared about this storyline, but now I'm intrigued. I wonder what happened.

Really, Why?

I saw a commercial for Veronica Mars a couple of days ago and it went so fast that I'm hardly sure if I heard correctly, but I think somewhere in the commercial it shows a quick clip of Veronica with Lianne in that bar and Lianne tells Veronica that she was sleeping with Jake Kane during the time Lilly was murdered. Now, if anyone has seen this commercial, please confirm. And if what I heard was correct then that just twists the story even more.

Yup, I downloaded that preview off of neptune-high.net. Lianne does say that she was with Jake when Lilly was murdered.

This new information has to tie into everything else. There are just so many people involved with other people's business that it is hard to sort out who is involved in who's story. We know that Clarence Weidman was the one blackmailing Lianne, but we still don't know for sure if he was doing it independently or if he was taking orders. It's all so confusing, but still very exciting.

I came to the show kind of late, and I didn't really know the story well enough to care about her mother.

Well... I guess the mystery of what happened to Lianne is solved.

Poor Veronica though... all her money. What's she going to do?

That's exactly what I was going to say.

I must have missed it though, but why exactly did Lianne leave again? I understand everything that went down in the hotel room, but not so much the aftermath ...

Lianne Mars. Well, I'm sure some of the things she told Veronica in Betty and Veronica were true:

1. the day of Lilly's murder Celeste DID leave a message on Veronica's machine about Lianne and Jake.

2. Lianne DID spend the whole two hours with Jake Kane.

3. Celeste DID come in at the end of things and scream at them.

Questions: how long did it take to tell Jake to make Celeste layoff or a paternity suit? I doubt it took 2 hours. Why did Celeste go nuts over Veronica dating Duncan, when we saw in a flashback she was OK with it before? Why did Lianne AGAIN meet with Jake Kane in a motel room late at night, when Celeste had hired now PI Keith to find out if Jake was cheating?

All of these things point out to Celeste finding out that Jake and Lianne were still getting horizontal (Lianne did not know if Veronica WAS Keith's daughter or Jake's and admitted it to Veronica). The later meeting after she'd took off at another rented room suggests an ongoing affair. Also, it appears likely that Lianne told Jake of the possibility of Duncan being Veronica's sister, this may have inflamed Celeste's jealousy, in the week or so before Lilly's death and right around Duncan's dumping.

Ask yourself who controls Clarence Weidman? The man who he reports to and signs his checks, or the rather dumb and unstable wife of said man? Likely Jake had an eye kept on his perhaps illegitimate daughter, wouldn't you if you were afraid of cosanguinity (my new word for today haha)? If pictures were lying around, all handy like, maybe Celeste figured a way to send her not very smart rival packing.

All signs point to the prior, and perhaps still ongoing affair between Jake and Lianne as the precipitating event in what caused Lilly's death.

Interesting.
