Case File 3 - 17: "Debasement Tapes"

Piz (Chris Lowell) is put in charge of escorting his idol, Desmond Fellows (guest star Paul Rudd, "Anchorman"), a singer/musician from a 1990's pop band who arrives on the Hearst campus to perform at a benefit concert for the radio station. When tapes of Fellow's back-up vocals and tracks go missing, Piz recruits Veronica (Kristen Bell) to help locate them.

Keith (Enrico Colantoni) believes he will be running unopposed in the race for Sheriff, until an unlikely candidate throws his hat into the ring.

Jason Dohring, Percy Daggs, Francis Capra, Ryan Hansen Tina Majorino and Julie Gonzalo also star. Dan Etheridge directed the episode written by John Enbom.

Well, Piz gets to chaperone one of his idol, Desmond Fellows(Paul Rudd), a former member of a '90s pop duo, who now uses the backing vocals of his deceased bandmate to just get by. But the tapes turn up missing and Veronica's on the case. Turns out that the bag with his tapes was picked up by someone else by mistake at the airport, so Veronica and Piz go to L.A. to get the tapes CDs, and find a CD of new material that Desmond was working on, so they call him and make up a story that they were stuck in traffic so he'd have to do his new stuff and it was a success.

Logan needs to turn in a business model, so he enlists Mac to create a website rating butts of the female variety, an idea which he got after watching Dick in a video on a YouTube-style site where he somehow ran over his own foot with his own car. Somehow, though, I think the website was really Dick's idea and he let Logan take full credit for it. But even after getting some help from Max, the professor didn't care for the presentation.

Keith gets a visit from Leo, who asks Keith to check out some suspicious activity at the courthouse(where he was a security guard at before reporting the activity to his supervisor, who reassigned him) involving Danny Boyd(Fighting Fitzpatricks returning?). Keith and Leo do a late night stakeout at the courthouse and see the Fitzpatricks taking weapons out of a storage shed, but Vinnie Van Lowe locked the Fitzpatricks in the shed. And Vinnie decides to run against Keith for Sheriff.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.....

Episode grade: 8/10

I liked this episode. I thought it was funny and entertaining. Paul Rudd definately made it interesting. I found it interesting and funny on how names he called Piz.
Paul Rudd played the washed up drunk musician perfectly.
Is it just me or is there a lot of sexual tension between Piz and Veronica? And did she wear that short little jean skirt just for him?

Paul Rudd was Fabulous in the epi. Liked all the different names he came up with for Piz. I loved the Logan/Mac sceens. They were great. As for Piz/Veronica I got NO sexual tension at all. All I go was friend fibs. Was like watching V with Wallace. So not one of those amazing, epic couples. I see it more and more as a rebound.

Liked Logan's insecureties about V and Piz. I mean if she is dating him now then what was in her head then. Totaly get it. Also isn't it funny how V only got interested in Piz after say he was a "good guy". Hello who else was one of those. I wonder how long V/P have been going out when the the last two epis happen. Makes me think it is even more of a rebound by how fast they are moving (if it is only a few weeks). From "friend...for now" to the stuff in those epis. Mmmmm..insteresting. What is everyone else think?

Okay, so I was all excited to watch the episode tonight, so at 8pm I turn on the T.V. to watch Gilmore Girls, since it's the next to last episode, and what happens five minutes into the ep?? Local news breaks in because there's a raging fire in Los Angeles. Now, does the news cast just give a brief update on the fire? No, of course not. They take the whole TWO hour block for GG and VM. Did ABC do this? No. Did CBS? No. NBC or Fox? No. Just the CW. Why? Cuz they SUCK! I mean, I understand giving us updates about it, but why couldn't they do it during commercial breaks?? I hope they reschedule the episodes to air this weekend. I feel bad for the GG fans, as this was the next to last episode before it's off of the air.

Sorry, rant over.

That episode was great!

Not that I’m surprised, but Paul Rudd did an amazing job. He had me laughing throughout the whole episode, especially with his names for Piz

Mac and Logan definitely need more scenes together. They play off of one another so well. Of course Mac took a stake in the company over Logan’s payment…smart girl! It was interesting to see Dick interact with Mac. It wasn’t as awkward as it’s been in the past, but you can still feel the tension from Mac’s side. As for Logan’s project, the teacher was a jerk. Logan looked so mad, but I’m glad he didn’t act on the anger and make a scene. I hope that wasn’t setting it up so that Logan fails the class or something.

Veronica and Piz were actually bearable. I wish there wasn’t the undertone of a relationship because I’d really like them as friends. The “girl talk” created by VP with Wallace was hysterical. I loved how Wallace dealt with the whole situation and turned the tables on Veronica.

Leo’s back! I’m interested to see why they brought him back so late in the season. Maybe it’ll tie into the election or something. Speaking of the election, Vinnie Van Lowe for sheriff That’ll be amusing!

Well, I'm sad I didn't get it watch it on my TV, but I did love the episode.

Can Desmond come back each week to give me more funny names for Piz? Please?

That elevator has to be the worst stop for LV, I swear. AWKWARD!

Logan and Mac: So funny.

Dick's got this great ability to be so dumb, but I can't help but love him anyway.

Will have more later, I suppose.

I really enjoyed tonight's ep. Paul Rudd is beyond awesome he had me giggling all the time, especially with his names for Piz. the mystery didn't exactly have the most astounding of endings, but I enjoyed watching them investigate anyhoo. The Veronica/Ratner scene was great, especially Veronica's face when Piz said the robe was blue and she realised she was wrong. hee.

The Wallace/Veronica scenes were awesome. I love that he's back and calling her out on her crap. If only he'd been around to do that earlier in the season "Which bothers you, because making out with you is supposed to be some life-changing experience." was totally my favourite line of the episode

I actually enjoyed the Veronica/Piz scenes this week, and I think it's a shame they have to have them become a couple because I think they're cute when they're just hanging out. But beyond that.. I just see no romantic chemistry whatsoever. but I do like the way it played out. I'm glad Veronica wasn't suddenly madly in love with him after their kiss, and still only wanted to be friends. I do think she thinks he's a really sweet guy and she'll start dating him because.. well, exactly that. Drama-free.

Mac/Max are awesome. So cute. Hord nerd-on-nerd action, hee. And the Mac/Logan scenes were great, Tina and Jason play off each other so well. Even though Logan's website was a little.. odd, I was raaather pissed at his stupid professor. I hope Logan actually goes to someone higher up with that and tells them he deserved to have it looked at, because that was completely unfair.

The Vinnie and Keith stuff I enjoyed too. Vinnie for Sheriff! he's hilarious, I love him. And Leo.. well, I find it a little weird that Keith would rehire him after he got fired for stealing the tapes, but I guess he knows that was a one-off. But with Leo and Logan in an episode it's a whole world of mumbling. Seriously guys, speak up please. It's distracting.

No, you're not smunyang. I can't stand them together either. I am just so dismayed with the direction it's going especially with a possible cancellation. I know that it's looking better for a renewal, but even with the new and "improved" format I don't like it. RT said he wanted to make it difficult for the network to cancel the show, but what does the network care about who a fictional character ends up with? My fear is that we'll end with Logan/Parker & Veronica/Piz and then this FBI thing will be picked up. Where would Logan fit into this whole FBI thing? He really wouldn't. Mac maybe with her computer skills but no one else really.

I was so annoyed that Logan was worrying that Veronica was cheating on him with Piz while they were together. Really? She never once showed any indication of that. Why can't he just accept that they are just going out now? I mean, that's what he and Parker did. It's not like they were going behind Veronica's back.

Vinny for Sheriff. That would be so funny. But, maybe it'll be Leo as Sheriff? Why else bring him back? I was surprised to see him because he's been on Ugly Betty. He's one busy guy!!

I also didn't get why Veronica didn't check the bag. That should have been the first place she looked, as it was the scene of the crime and all.

Paul Rudd was great. It was a little disconcerting, though. I always thought he was so cute, but he looked really grubby and gross in this episode!

You were not alone. I've never been a big fan of Piz's and tonight didn't win me over either.

I mean, he's a nice guy, but that's it. It doesn't make me want to like him more, even with his goofy music trivial knowledge.

The Ratner moment, Kirsty, oh my! Just loved it. I mean, let's accuse Ratner of evil one more time, just for the sake of continuity.

Vinnie as sherriff: . I do not approve at all. At least the race will be interesting now.

I loved the L/V elevator scene.

Paul Rudd was awesome. Desmond flirting with Veronica. Hee. "How old are you, Veronica?" "I'm eleven." His comment that all-business Veronica is "deadly" (with Piz's agreeing face).

I also really liked Wallace/Veronica conversations.
