Case File 3-05: "President Evil"
It's Halloween at Hearst and while Veronica (Kristen Bell) is looking for Logan (Jason Dohring) at the underground campus casino, the place is robbed and the thieves take Veronica's necklace, given to her by Lilly Kane (Amanda Seyfried, who does not appear in the episode).
Meanwhile, Dean O'Dell (guest star Ed Begley, Jr., "Arrested Development") and his wife Mindy (guest star Jamie Ray Newman, "E Ring") seek Keith's (Enrico Colantoni) help in tracking down Steve (guest star Richard Grieco, "21 Jump Street"), the biological father of Mindy's son, who is deathly ill. Wallace (Percy Daggs III), distracted by a new group of friends, struggles to pass his Mechanical Engineering class. Ryan Hansen, Michael Muhney, Tina Majorino, Chris Lowell, Francis Capra and Julie Gonzalo also star. Nick Marck directed the episode written by Jonathan Moskin and David Mulei |
Don't know if this another pop-culture reference...
In the previews the thieves are all wearing Ex-President masks (Jimmy Carter; Ronald Regan; Richard Nixon; etc.). This might be a nod to the 1991 film "Point Break" with Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves. Swayze played the leader of a group of bank robbers who wore similar masks and called themselves "The Ex-Presidents" who FBI Agent Reeves was trying to infiltrate to take them down. |
As in Resident Evil? I love that movie.
I hope my BFF Wallace has more than like one line tonight. |
As usual, i laughed, i was impressed..and then i was confused..not sure if we are allowed to talk about it yet, so i'll refrain.

Veronica talks to Claire about the night of her rape and shows her the ATM picture, but Claire doesn't remember anything about that night and doesn't recognize the guy in the photo. But Veronica sees the logo on his shirt, and finds the guy, but it turns out to be Claire's boyfriend! Yikes. Back to square one.
Veronica goes to the underground casino without Logan, and two guys, one wearing a Ronald Reagan mask(doing a poor Tony Montana impersonation) and the other a Richard Nixon mask, rob the place, taking everyone's wallets and jewelry(including Veronica's cherished necklace that Lilly gave her) and the cashbox. Turns out it was a couple of Hearst Campus Police officers, who stole the masks and prop guns from the A/V Club and framed Weevil by planting some of the jewelry in his car and ordering a pizza online to send to his house. Veronica got her necklace by snatching it off the neck of the daughter of the rent-a-cop, which was cool(consider that payback for the gum that Veronica sat on earlier). O'Dell and his wife hire Keith to find her ex-husband(played by Richard Grieco; where were the Butabi brothers? What is love?; anyway, I remember him from Night At The Roxbury and If Looks Could Kill more than from 21 Jump Street, which I didn't watch), as O'Dell's stepson is dying of bone cancer. He didn't want to at first, but the payment for his bone marrow(a freakin' Porsche) was apparently worth it. Wallace is having trouble with a class and the dude from Cousin Skeeter hooks him up with a guy who gives him a study guide with the answers for $200. Yep, Wallace cheated on his exam. Episode grade: 9.25/10 |
Did anyone else figure out that the 2 campus police guys were the robbers pretty much immediately? Either I've become brilliant overnight or the MotW was incredibly predictable.
I hate how the first person V accuses is Weevil. She should know him better than that by now. Have no idea what's going with the rape mystery. So Claire lied about not knowing who the guy in the photo is. Ookay. I've got nothing. So everyone agree that L/V were dressed up as The White Stripes? Did anyone see the subject of Wallace's email to V? Snickerdoodleme :D Hee! Too cute. But shame shame on Wallace for cheating. |
Blah I didn't get to see the episode :(
|
I was reading LJs before the episode, so the costumes made sense to me, but I don't know if I would have gotten it otherwise.
Not sure what is going on with Claire and not knowing Wang, but I'll wait for it to play out. Keith getting played is no good, and that storyline just sort of bothered me. Loved to see all of the Lamb goodness...ah for some good old fashion snarking. |

My favourite line of the night:
LAMB: I have your number, your ad's on all the bus stops. Call Cliff: Get Off. Gah, I laughed for 5 minutes. I looooooooove me some Cliff. Lamb's robot! The best thing was the guy in the background who was telling everyone to get their camera phones out. Seriously, is Tina Majorino even in this show anymore? I miss her. |
Lamb snark last night was really good, so I'm not going to to complain at all.
Tina's on the show, but don't forget that she's also working on Big Love, so she's not going to be in all the episodes. The way that Veronica had to work with Lamb this week had me laughing so much, and that's a good thing. |
We won't see Mac until Ep 9. :( And no Piz?
|
I thought it was an excellent episode. I'm new to VM (only been watching for a few weeks now) so I'm confused by the necklace thing. Who was Lilly?
What I don't get is why Claire lied about knowing the guy in the photo. I can't wait to see what's going to happen with the rape story line. |

Oh ok! Thanks so much!
I really need to get Season 1 and 2 so I can "catch up". I'm already addicted and have been told that if I see them, I'll be even more so. |
