It's an fabulous as well as awesome list. It could be listened to for a good long time. I can't imagine the list getting any better. Great job!! Now we just need to get all the music downloaded. I've purchased the "gold" CDs with clear cases for the even more fantastic covers and liners. We are getting there and it's working very well and smoothly.

Oh wow, that is an AMAZING list! MAJOR props to all those that made this happen. I can't wait to see/hear what Scott's reaction is!

Calling all writers and music lovers!!!

We have completed the 50+1 song list (see opening post), and are now moving on to liner notes. We are looking for a line or two for each song to let Scott know ‘why’ each song was chosen for each year or just some interesting information about that particular song. Some of the songs are favorites of his that he mentioned in past interviews, some remind us of Scott, and some are just great songs that were released during that year for him to enjoy.

Everyone is welcome to join in. So, check out the song list and post your suggestions. Please include the name of the song with your suggestion so I match them up correctly. Feel free to post suggestions for as many songs as you want to. After a few days I will post which songs are left that still need liner notes/blurbs. Have fun everyone. Thinking caps on!

I'll jump in Tarty with a few lines.

1958: Johnny B Goode By Chuck Berry. A quindesencal rock and roll song by a true pioneer that contains one of the most famous guitar riffs. A cool way to celebrate the year you were born.
1966: The Monkees I'm Not Your Stepping Stone. One of two songs you mention playing in your rock band as a kid. (Gilmore Girls Season Three DVD Extras) The visual alone is worth the price of admission.
1972 A Space Oddity by David Bowie. Once we heard you sing a snippet in the Aliens episode 100,000 Miles, we knew that this song had to be included.
2000 Where You Lead By Carol King (Gilmore Girls Theme Song), This version will always remind us of the year we were first introduced to Luke Danes, a character, you brought to life and that gave us seven years of wonderful moments.

Nice beginnings, Lulu. I've taken your lines and made a mock-up of the inside jacket to get a feel as to what it would look like. Not a bad start there either -- May tweak it a bit for font style and size.

NoGods -- what would you think of a "watermark" picture on the inside jacket -- is that something feasible?? -- or would that look too busy -- getting ahead of myself.

Great notes Lulu and awesome formating Deborah! I think a watermark might be too busy, but it's one of those things you won't know until you try. I love how much thought you are putting into the details.

I pm'd Tarty on this, but if possible, I would LOVE to provide the comments for "Positively 4th Street", "Debaser", "Land: Horses; Land of 1,000 Dances; La Mer (de)", "Ohio", and "Doin' The Things That We Want To". If I'm stepping on any toes, please tell me! I have no idea who else wants to write. There are other songs I would love to write for, but I'll wait to see if other people want them.

Glad you guys liked the Sex Pistols cover. It was tricky creating some of the letters in order to spell "Scott Patterson", but otherwise that was an easy one. Sgt. Pepper will take some doing, but it's a challenge I enjoy and need. My photoshop skills get rusty unless I use them. Remember to send me a picture of yourself if you want to be on the cover.

While we have our thinking caps on, we need to take a look at 1975. Patti Smith - Horses. Since Horses is the name of the album, we need to choose a song, unless this is referring to Land: Horses/Land..... as the song. ???
The exact title of that song is as I wrote it above. It's commonly just known as "Horses" though. Since we're getting closer to the nitty gritty, here are some small errors in the orange list posted above we may want to revise:

For 1979, the song is "Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)" (There's no "Put")

1984: "Doin' The Things That We Want To" (add "the things"; shorten "doing").

1985: "Artists United Against Apartheid" (Not United Artists)

1992: Should be Eric Clapton (not Clayton)

Pretty nit-picky, I know. I promise to have myself psychoanalyzed as soon as we finish!

Thanx for the nitpicks, NoGods. I like perfection when it goes along with the name of "Scott Patterson" Just as Babette says "Location, Location, Location" [with that little fist going back and forth]; I will sing the praise of "Editing, Editing, Editing."

May I beg and plead with people wanting to write lines about the songs for Scott -- please keep politics at bay and GG to a minimum. Scott isn't all about left-wing politics and the Gilmore Girls -- he's soooo much more than that -- I'd like to show him that we know this.

Does that mean "January 2009 - End Of An Error" is out as a blurb?

I do get what you are saying SPA, and I agree with you.

I see a few more nits we may want to pick.

1965: Positively 4th Street (spell out street)

1996: (I'm Not Your) Steppin' Stone (add parentheses and sub ' for g)

2007: U2/Green Day (Green Day as two words)

2008: My Morning Jacket (add My)

Can't wait to see more liner notes!

Can someone make sure the song title is correct for U2's song Where the Streets Have No Names. Is that correct?

Good going everyone.

Tarty can you keep track of the corrections, since you will be typing them out to send to Deborah.

U2's song is 'Where The Streets Have No Name'.

Sure, I'll keep a master song list with the corrections. If anyone sees any other changes to make please send them to me.

Thank you for the editing marks. Looks like my candlelight typing needs to wait until the beginning rays of morning sunshine. Sorry for all this. Edits have been made the the Master List(s).

Didn't mean to come on so strong about the lines. I just thought that the music is mainly rock-n-roll and tunes that could be enjoyed anywhere and everywhere he happens to be.

My Suggestions for Lines of some songs:

1. Measha's Happy Birthday: "Prelude -- A special surprise for you from a friend"

1959: So What by Miles Davis. What could be better than to listen to authentic NYC jazz by "the Master".

1987: Where The Streets Have No Name by U2. Because the memories of U2's Joshua Tree concerts never fade

1994: Stuff You Gotta Watch by The Band. Why is it that I can't listen to this song without visualizing the "Clown Prince of Baseball" (Max Patkin)

1995: Days Like This by Van Morrison. A song of perseverance when times may seem on the "lean side"

Let me know your thoughts.

SPA, you and Lulu have done a fantastic job!! All of us have copied and pasted our way through four months and over hundreds and hundreds of songs while making suggestions and posting our choices. I think we shortened names to expedite the process. Now, we will go back and cross every T and dot every i so the finished CDs have all names and songs correct. Kudos to you ladies!!

Ela, very nice. I think Scott will recognize that cover.
