At Last

At long last – we have bonafide news!!

Scott contacted me today!!!

He has signed up and is currently working on 2 indie films – one after the other.

The first indie film is yet “untitled” It is based on the true story of Barry Minkow. So far Universal’s working title for the film is “The Barry Minkow Project.” This movie is currently being filmed in L.A. (they started shooting today). Hopefully “Universal Studios” will be posting something very, very soon – Keep your eyes peeled!!! I can tell you that James Caan and Ving Rhames have starring roles in this movie. Scott’s character’s name is: Mike.

Scott Patterson Buffs and Movie Buffs will know that Scott has worked with James Caan before – “A Boy Called Hate” which was a vehicle for James Caan’s son, Scott Caan. S.P. played a CHPs officer who was shot and killed by Scott Caan’s character, “Hate.”

Another coincidence with this movie is that there seems to be a part with actor Gianni Russo, who played Carlo Rizzi in the movie “The Godfather” Rizzi is the brother-in-law that James Caan’s character, Sonny Corleone, beat to a pulp because he beat Sonny’s sister, Connie (played by Talia Shire). See: Gianni Russo (Earlier I thought he was a director, but he's not -- haven't found out where Gianni Russo fits in this movie yet, but I'll try to track it down. There isn't a lot of information about this film project yet.)

Here is a little ‘Wiki’ information regarding Barry Minkow. With Scott’s predilection to money, and investments and wickedness, doesn’t this seem just right up his alley?

Barry Minkow (born March 17, 1967) is an American religious leader and ex-convict.

As a young teenager Minkow was a fraudulent entrepreneur who managed to present the front of a successful businessman for a number of years during the 1980s. His company, ZZZZ Best (pronounced "Zee Best") appeared to be an immensely successful carpet-cleaning company but collapsed in 1987, costing investors an estimated $100 million. He was convicted of fraud and several other offenses and sentenced to 25 years in prison, but served only seven years. During his time in prison, Minkow became involved in Christian ministry, which continued after his probationary release from prison in April 1995.

Today he is senior pastor of the Community Bible Church in San Diego, California, having renounced his felonious acts. Minkow is recognized as an expert on fraud, and speaks on the subject to university students and the business community in an effort to prevent fraud.

Minkow and ZZZZ Best are mentioned in Burton G. Malkiel's work A Random Walk Down Wall Street as an example of stock market bubbles. Minkow tells his story in the book, "They Thought for Themselves"

The second indie film is called “The Frankenstein Brothers”. I do not know any more about this second movie – only that it begins filming in the end of September / beginning of October. I wonder if the title has anything to do with the rock group “Bolt On Neck” – A R&R movie for Scott?

I am promised more information as it arrives – and as soon as it is able to be disclosed – meaning – “hot off the presses”. Whew – I am very grateful for just hanging in there, you know!!

This is great news. Scott is concentrating on being an actor again (just my teasing -- I'm sure he's a multi-tasker just like most people).

IMDb is reporting that Blake Barris plays a "young Mike" -- My guess is that Scott is playing Mike as an adult and that he is a childhood friend -- so there will be flashbacks. Here's the IMDb link to the movie They also could be friends in prison as well. I'm guessing/hoping that Scott's character is involved all throughout the movie (keeping fingers crossed)

I think the News Thread could use a spruce. A new banner would be good.


It's great to see Scott has found some new projects he is interested in being involved with. "The Barry Minkow Project" looks promising. It will be exciting to see Scott in a new movie. I'm looking foward to it. Can't really tell what "The Frankenstein Brothers" will be about, but I will definitely check it out too when it is released. I notice "The Rogue" is now listed on the opening post as in-production. That's good news since that movie looks like it will be interesting.

SPA, I'm curious. Do you know if Scott's spokesperson will be able to provide an address for fan mail in the near future? I notice you wrote "address pending" for now.

Tarty: I've put in a request or two, but have not yet received an answer. I've also tried to look up Laina Cohn on the internet at a new company in L.A. but have not yet found one. Looks like she/they are still in transition -- Sole practitioner or a new company -- As soon as I hear something, I'll post right away.

It's neat that he is involved in different projects, but I'd really love to know who his character is, what he does.

That's when the fun stuff can happen and we can speculate and such.

I'm trying to see what's out there for The Frankenstein Brothers -- and coming up crickets. I'll keep trying though. Got some feelers out with some people that might a thing or two. I'll let you know what I find out as soon as I can.

I was told that Universal would be sending out / preparing a press release very shortly -- mainly because they are currently filming so logic dictates that something should be out there.

All I know of the Minkow movie is that Scott plays an adult "Mike", which seems to be a childhood friend of Minkow. IMDb have listed both Barry and Mike as children -- but have not listed both or either as adults. Someone with knowledge needs to update IMDb, which also runs at a snail's pace.

Found a tidbit about The Frankenstein Brothers.

Apparently, Alexandra Paul is also going to be in the movie as well as Daniel Stern and Zelda Williams.

AP: "I will be shooting an independent movie, The Frankenstein Brothers, next month, playing Daniel Stern's alcoholic wife and Zelda Williams' mother."
