Also heard the Golden Globes will just be a 1-hour press conference announcing the winners. I like them too, Michelle. Interesting that the actors are unanimous in not crossing the picket line - because this is significant prestige, exposure, etc. I wonder what happens to all the "haute couture" - the women's gowns, etc. must have been ordered the moment the nominations came out.

Meanwhile - some takes (as I understood them!) on the strike in the past few days as the late night shows have come back on to the air - only Letterman/Ferguson have their writers. Jon Stewart - back last night - who remains sympathetic to the writers' POV - sounded resentful about the Guild, just the same. His bosses (whichever corp. owns Comedy Central - I forget!) - gave him (and Colbert's show, since he works for Stewart) permission to enter into a separate negotiation with the Writers Guild just like Letterman did ... but the Guild wouldn't sit down to make the deal ... Letterman only! No wonder Letterman couldn't stop thanking the Guild in his first show back on the air. DL's first nightly "top ten" list was strike demands read by ten striking writers from various shows. Offhand I remember 2 - "no rollbacks in health care coverage" - a legitimate gripe! - and "instead of 4 cents for a $20 DVD, how about $20 for a 4-cent DVD"? It was a joke - but they have a point as far as how much DVDs cost to produce en masse vs. how much they sell for.

Both Stewart and Colbert had guests (lawyers/writers/professors who specialize in union strikes) to explain last night. To sum up, the 2 sides aren't talking at all. It's a total stalemate. Still they seemed confident it will end sometime (!) ... but only when one side gives in because they can't sustain the losses any longer. Neither side is even close.

Hidden issue revealed as far as the studios - why they won't budge: there's a lot of "fudging" that's been going on with the $-numbers when it comes to the actual (i.e., present) value of future revenue streams for digitial media distributed over the Internet, e.g., i-tunes. Profits on DVD sales are fuzzy too. There's no one accounting standard or way to measure "income" from the Internet. Cutting the Writers Guild in to a piece of the pie means changes to accounting and accountability (i.e., truth and accuracy!) in reporting these numbers. To the extent that the studios/ networks are avoiding that at any cost, I'm guessing this isn't only "greed - I want it all" ... it's greedy and shady, slimy - whatever you want to call "creative accounting" - translating into two permanent ways to reduce future earnings --> they're going to have to lose tons of money before there's an incentive for the networks to settle.

Just think, you now have 2-3 hours of your life back

They only part of awards shows I like are seeing when my favourite stars are wearing and to see what some of them say in the news reels or the night.

As sick as it may sound I love the memorial part. Half the time I don't even remember the people dying.

Congratulations to the winners of the People’s Choice Awards.

Samantha Who won best new comedy and Melissa McCarthy was sitting next to Christina Applegate when receiving award. She looks good. The same ole’ Sookie. She had lots of smiles on her face with being on a new “award-winning” (for a change) show. I guess if Aliens had to lose out to another show, I’m so glad it wasn’t Chuck or Pushin Daisies.

Also, Es and Yvonne – I’m sure your ecstatic that Moonlight won Award for best new show – Mick gave the acceptance speech and boy did his Aussie accent really come out!!

Congratulations to all the winners.

BTW: The show was really lame.

Wasn't the People’s Choice Awards picketed by the WGA?

Good on Samantha Who for the win.

I'm DVRing the PCAs and fastwarding through a lot of it. Because yes Deborah you are right it is lame. Talk about bare bones.

Craig all it is is Queen Latifa announcing the noms, showing clips then she says who won, then a prerecorded message from the winner. Basically it Queen dressed up all alone. Sad really.

Yes, they were picketed. The show was videotaped. The winners received their award quietly and then videotaped their acceptance speech. The show was a lot of video footage from past PCA awards. It just didn't feel the same. I remember yawning.

Thanks for the info, I'm not sure if it will be shown here, but sounds just like the GGs and not worth it.

I really loved to watch him in that interview. His accent is really hot and so is Alex of course

As she should be. I t hink Melissa is a great actor, I enjoyed her very much as Sookie. Gilmore Girls had a lot of actors who deserve an award for what they did.

What she said.
Personally, I don't get why Lauren never got an award. That's just beyond me.

ITA - along with Scott, Kelly B, and Edward H.
~~~
I have BIG SP news ... if it is news. Two lines were recently added to the end of Scott's "mini-bio" on the internet movie database (imdb.com). Sometimes this info is great, but sometimes it's 100% inaccurate. Like Wikipedia, they don't 'vet' their sources (anyone can post anything) ... and I don't have proof.
But if this is true ... WOW! (and yuck?!!)
We'll just have to see if it's true and/or reliable. I'm a little skeptical at the moment. Don't know why. Not everything that Scott touches, turns to gold, you know??
It's just that he's a jock. An intelligent one, no doubt, but a jock nonetheless. And if he's into painting and art collecting, as well as writing music -- when is he concentrating on his "acting"?? Does this mean that he doesn't care too much for making acting a "priority" because he has all these other things that he can do?? I don't see that side of him. All he's ever talked about -- to Tracie and I as well as to interviewers -- was performing and the acting at hand, and how up and jazzed he is for that project. It's definately on the "front" burner, not the back one.
And, maybe then again, it's a small collection. Not too many works -- just a few pieces. Again, where does he find the time? And it's completely new information that nobody has heard before -- not even a snippet. Hell, we can't even get any information about what he's writing!! And now he has artifacts on display in Paris and has a art show coming out soon??
Ockham's Razor theory falls into play here -- link
Oh - I'm skeptical too. Esp. about the frogs. Plus I love it when "the Louvre in Paris" as if it shouldn't be confused with the one in Ames, Iowa - e.g. (LOL)
I hope I stressed the IF's strongly enough. I brought it over (a) because news is SO slow, (b) maybe someone will find something out, and (c) if he were to have a gallery showing - how cool would that be?!!
The only things we know: he plays and writes music - and he has a library of ~3,000 volumes. Some undoubtedly are rare.
It's possible that he paints - why not? Lots of people do, for fun. It's very relaxing!!!
p.s. I once visited Hyde Park in NY (FDR's residence) with my Mom ... they had an exhibit of paintings by Winston Churchill! He painted most of his adult life - even during WWII!!! The paintings were beautiful. So with all due respect to Mr. Occam or Ockham, anything is possible, esp. w/gifted, multi-faceted people.
BTW - I'd never heard of that "law" before - apparently from mathematics - the simplest answer is most often the correct one. Makes sense! Learned at least 1 new correct thing today ... thanks!!!
petrified baby frogs??? I think someone is having a bit of fun. The Louvre is not a natural history museum,unless these frogs qualify as art. Still, kudos to that person's sense of humor or SP's ability to dupe an interviewer. Very funny!
