I completely agree 100%!!! But I don't blame David Rosenthal because he only went with what was already given to him and he was locked into having David Sutcliffe for 13 episodes. He wanted to bring Luke and Lorelai back together by the January episodes of Season 7, the network and Lauren pushed for the LC relationship to continue. But it all starts back with ASP and DP losing perspective. They are genius writers but they made some huge mistakes in their joint careers and in the writing. That year, Season 6, definitely was not their greatest triumph.
Is this new info? 'Cause I never heard that the network was pushing for C&L, Um didn't they see the ratings crash from the highs of S5?

ITA for ASP and DP S6 was their worst, spend 4-5 years getting them together just to spend the next 22 eps ripping them apart.

I don't know where I read that, but I knew about the whole Amy/Dan LC/LL thing....but didn't know about the whole LG/SP stuff. when it came down to it for me, I didn't need have any feelings one way or the other, all i cared about was on-screen chemistry and professionalism, which both seemed good. thanks for the info
I agree about the onscreen chemistry 100% Thx - interesting read! I didn't know about Dan noticing Luke first. I thought the Luke and Chris characters are variants or facets of Dan, mostly. Luke covers the "guy's guy" stuff - and Chris covers the music obsession (w/Lane!) Both have some Amy in them (tho' Lorelai the most of course) - the mocking and dark/irreverent humor.

Most of my favorite "Luke" eps. and lines were written by Daniel Palladino, followed by John Stephens and Amy #3. I thought the chemistry btw Lorelai and Luke was apparent in the Pilot - and was recognized by Amy almost immediately. I also thought that aside from the other guys (max, jason, etc.), Amy purposely made Luke and Chris seem to be "the one" - by turn - 'always keep the audience guessing.' To me it was always Luke because (personal bias + preferences aside!!!!) he's the "mensch"! (high integrity ... the good guy you can always count on.) vs. Christopher being nice - well-intended - but flaky. I'd have bet the ranch (and lost!) that Chris was out of the running (1) after he caused the S5 break-up and (2) when he inherited a lot of money.

It's a major underlying theme in the tension btw Lorelai and her parents. The whole point of Lorelai living in Stars Hollow with Kirk and Babette vs. marrying "her kind" and joining the D.A.R. (etc.) is that she rejects her parents' superficial values. The SH folks are quirky but they're real people; real friends. When Richard pointed out in the series finale that the friends at the "bon voyage Rory" party reflected Lorelai (and the audience knows, in turn, that it also reflects Luke's love for Lorelai), it was the best moment of the finale in terms of closure. I'd have forgiven the lack of an L/L middle (well, in part) if they'd had 1 good love scene. I really respect Scott admitting publicly that was lacking, in his recent radio interview about how the show ended.

I love the char. Lorelai and LG's portrayal. My only issues: When asked about state of rapport w/Scott at the beginning of S7, she answered "You don't get to pick your co-stars." It was the same interview when she said she loves dogs but didn't like the dog humor. Implication (admittedly - played up by Ausiello in TVGuide) - Scott and Paul Anka were in the dog house. The remark about Scott may have been a joke that didn't come across out of context, but it was not as classy as Scott's protective denials.... Scott's always a teamplayer first. LG complained about the kissing scenes w/Luke on Ellen. It may have had nothing or everything to do with Scott, but it was not helpful to SP vis-a-vis his career as a romantic leading man ... which is why I'm SO glad he answered the question about kissing Lauren honestly in that recent Memphis radio interview! Even if he would've been in his girlfriend's doghouse if he'd said "Yes, it was great." Plus, "yes" could've become news. No one likes a "kiss-and-tell guy." Lastly, when the show ended, Scott praised LG's work highly. Yes, it's playing the media relations game - but his comments were thoughtful and generous. The only thing LG managed to say was that she would miss the Lorelai/Luke banter. I heard "the sounds of silence" about Scott, and thought 'now that the show's over, can't you think of one nice thing to say about the guy?' Because as great an actress as LG is - comedic and dramatic - one of the greatest of our time and I totally hope she breaks out one of these days ... still, GG would've been dull without the add'l cast members - (1) Luke (2) Emily/Richard (3) Jess (4) Taylor, Kirk (5) Logan ... et al. ... and most importantly: without sex!!!!!

As for the S6 plot contrivances: April's messing up L/L should've been an arc - part of a season, maybe ... but never should've ruptured L/L. Just now as I'm watching S6 reruns, the lead-up is how much Luke loves being with Lorelai - even doing things he'd normally never do ... and trying to trick her into eating healthier food - "I know this is low-fat cheese!" And - Luke saying "this will never work out if we're not honest with each other" (lap scene!!) He'd never have gone back on that ... not for months! As for how things wound up in Partings (6.22) ... IMHO the ep.'s title should've been "Amy's Revenge!" (or F/U - CW! and I don't mean follow-up)

Current news! - I've noticed 2 former GG directors on Aliens - Gail Mancuso and Michael Zinberg. Meanwhile, if Barack Obama loses in Iowa early next year, we'll have an excuse for Rory to come home for a "Gilmore Girls reunion"...!

Man did it back fire!

ETA - Good point about Rory and a GG movie, if Barack Obama loses then we have our reason for her to come home.

IMO the reason for ep 3 was Lorelai re-thinking what she has done for the last 22 years, thus the reason for the Cotillion dance and then calling Chris, she did it for her mother. That is NOT Lorelai.

I don't like how Lauren talked about Scott sometimes, where as Scott is always a pro. Maybe the stories they dated are true and he ended it, it could explain a lot!

I am surprised that people had not heard about DR wanting to reunite L&L early on in the season and that is was the network and Lauren pushed to L&C route. I know I heard it in several places, Ausiello being one of them, not about Lauren or the network pushing the LC storyline, but more about DR's plan to bring L&L back together in January.

Even Amy said that DR is a great writer but he was pushed into a corner by the network to go a certain way. She said that after GG was cancelled.

Karen - I totally agree with what you're saying about how Lauren handled things and how Scott handled things. But I don't think Lauren was trying to hide how she felt about Scott, I just think she was trying not to say anything and she was doing it very badly. I've said it before and I will say it again, I totally 100% think there is something there between Lauren and Scott. It might have happened in the past and is not totally resolved, or it is still happening. And with Kristine, I had theories on that, but they are just my personal theories. But I think things there are not what they seem.

Just checked my DVR schedule and they are in fact showing the Pilot episode of Aliens as the episode this Sunday at 7:30. As well as encores of Girlfriends, the Game and Gossip Girls all shows that air on other days as well (doesn't The Game and Girlfriends air on Mondays after Aliens?) Maybe they want the ratings for all the shows to improve.

I had heard LG was pushing the C&L story early in S7, I just wonder who's idea the break down of the marriage or even them eloping was. We did get news there were a lot of changes in FT, scenes not used and re shot, sides came out that were never used and the promo pic scene was never used.

I wonder what LG thinks now some time has past, was it a good season, especially give the negative fan and critic feedback. This is another reason that actors should stick to what they are good at and not try and influence the direction of a show going on their own personal feelings for the character. Too many people running any show is a recipe for disaster!

I'm sorry, but I still don't see how the network and Lauren pushed for the LC route. We did know that LC were supposed to end before Christmas, but things changed, but we don't know why. Why do you say it was the network and Lauren? Is it your own opinion or do you have some information?

I 100% agree with you, lancer! It was a big mistake they all made letting Lauren have so much say! I cannot believe they let her do that. She is obviously no great writer! She may be a great actress but she should not try to branch out too much!

JLarah - I did not just make this information up. This is all information I've heard for months and months in many places by many people. That is why I said I was surprised that people did not know this.

Since we're still not n topic, we probably will never know what really happened unless someone comes out and specifically tells us.

I wonder is Scott had any power, there were rumours he was holding out before signing for S7, would they have had C&L as the happy ending if Luke left town to be with April?

If I remember correctly, didn't Scott sign a 2-year deal for GG right before the end of Season 6? And wasn't it Amy that said that there were no worries. That GG would not be the same without Luke and that they (WB) would pay him whatever he wants -- Scott wouldn't/couldn't talk about what the hold-up was, but Amy did. I'm saying a 2-year deal because of the "holding clause" that went into action when GG shut down. I think that LG and AB had contracts up to Season 7. Here's what's interesting -- if WB/CW didn't want to give ASP/DP 2-year contract (ultimately a Season 8), why give Scott one??? I've asked this question before with no real solution.
