I believe AS-P said Luke has been an "almost surrogate father" for Rory. Which I buy, sporadically as we see it, it is there. And that's why I had to laugh at Christopher's lame "I'm your father ... that demands respect" attempt at parental authority in Emily Says Hello. Yeah, okay. Gotta say, I love that Rory tells Christopher, in Norman Mailer, I'm Pregnant, that Luke is "kind and, there". I'm glad she acknowledged that, considering she was mad with Luke at the end of the previous episode for ruining their double date.

Personally I think Luke is a father figure for Rory... he was always around... like the graduation, after the break-up with Dean... he wanted to beat her first b/f up

I love that Rory shouted at Jess because of how he was acting because the whole town had ganged up on Luke, shows she cared about how he felt.

Remember when Lorelai and Rory were sitting in the diner and Lorelai told Luke about Rory getting accepted to Harvard, Princeton and Yale and he was so excited and hugged her kinda awkwardly... that was so cute! And he cried at her graduation... Luke crying... what? And then they hugged before he left

That's why, I think, she was concerned/freaked with the "I think I'm dating Luke" declaration in Raincoats And Recipes. He's a constant for Rory, none of Lorelai's other boyfriends were.

Yes, that scene in the diner is one of my favorite Luke/Rory scenes! Luke was so cute (and awkward) in that scene, hugging Rory.

And Luke crying at the graduation was cute too!
