Isn't it funny how we all invest in a couple, there has been a few over the years for me.
Peter and Christine in Hotel
Dave and Maddie Moonlighting (although towards the end I didn't give a crap
Harm and Mac in Jag
Probably this is a close second to Luke and Lorelai --Micheala and Sully in Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman (who in my opinion were eerily similar to Luke and Lorelai and managed to have a very successful middle.

But Ultimately Luke and Lorelai really drew me in. Whether it was because I was so drawn into the fanforums and fanfics and that just made my love for them blossom even more or it was because of the show itself I don't know, but they became the main reason I watched. Rory's journey singularly as well as her relationship with her mom became secondary (although I'd say the first three seasons I enjoyed Rory).
And Truthfully Luke (and Scott) so completely sucked me in, that he probably was one of the main reasons I kept watching when things went bad, that and the fact I couldn't bale on Luke and Lorelai because I was trying to keep the faith that they would work it out (which they did, but in such a sllloooowwww manner)

hehe I only had two or three ships before L/L...

Leo and Piper (Charmed)
Tony and Angela (Who's The Boss?)

But I totally agree about the Scott draw-in. That was it for me.

When I saw the first episode of GG, it was Luke (Scott) that captured my interest and love for this show. I enjoyed the Mother/daughter storyline but it was the LL romance that kept me watching the show. Scott has the charisma and a natural ability to draw you into his character. I was totally amazed with his talent and feel his career is finally getting noticed.

Welcome to the forum, forgetthis!
I agree with you 100% I'll even venture to suggest GG wouldn't have lasted 7 years without him; and Rory's guys - Padalecki, Ventimiglia, and Czuchry (none of which are easy to spell!) - helped too. And there's no substitute for Edward Herrmann! It takes an excellent actor to be a foil for Kelly Bishop's Emily just as it took someone of Scott's strength, charisma, and understanding of Luke to be a foil for LG's Lorelai. (Ability to speak and/or reply fast didn't hurt either, I'm sure.)
Without the guys, the girls would've been SO boring. Without Scott, the whole show would've gotten so OLD - so fast! Whether L/L were on the ups, downs or sideways - when I watch (even now as reruns I've seen many times) I just can't wait to see him on-screen again.
And no question in my mind - L/L's chemistry was superb; some of the best on TV - for all-time!

I did not watch Gilmore Girls from the beginning. I actually only watched seasons 6 & 7 as first run episodes. My niece brought over the season 1 DVDs in the summer of 2005 for me to watch. I was hooked after the first episode and Luke had a lot to do with it. That summer we went out and bought the rest of the seasons that were out. I would stay up until 2:00 in the morning because I was so hooked I could not turn it off. The Luke & Lorelai story hooked me more than the Lorelai/Rory story did. I guess it was the heat I could feel from them through the TV screen.

I was destined to be hooked by Luke and Lorelai, my very first full episode (in first run) was Raincoats and Recipes. Luke had me at the Salad of Sex look. And how Lorelai looked back at him all shy and smily

*sniffles* well if that isn't true

Like I said many a time before - If there is such a thing as "the über-couple of all TV couples" - it's them. It is Luke and Lorelai. And I miss the rants.

Remember the time he bought the house so Taylor could not build in it? How he suddenly "exploded" all over the place about it? *happy sigh* my Luke

Yeah, that is such a powerful scene for me. I always feel like I'm intruding on a private moment but I just have to watch it. No wonder Patty and Babette were in their robes, it must've been hot hot hot around them.

That look Luke gave Lorelai raised my body temperature a few degrees and it still does every time I watch it. Hot

Actually it was already pretty darn hot when L/L were dancing ("poplocked") in LWT-TWF ... the way he looked at her as he was holding her super-close ... we're talking Death Valley (CA) - the desert in summertime - 150 degrees F in the shade! (if there were any shade in the desert) ... scorching!

Yep that scene in LWFTWT as they are dancing, it was so sweet and sexy at the same time. The shy glances, the smiles and slowly getting closer to each other, it was subtle but you could tell by Lorelai's placement of her hand on his shoulder, that they were getting closer. Plus at the end as they pan away, she puts her chin on his shoulder.

You can tell he keeps pulling her closer to him w/ his right arm ... his right hand is in different place at end of scene vs. beginning of dance....

"Luke can waltz!"
