I don't know that the CW has a hidden agenda, I just think they're trying to find their market. Their WB/UPN audience shrank considerably in the merger, which isn't necessarily a reflection on their programming -- they lost a lot of WB/UPN affiliate stations in the merger, and are still rebuilding. Could be why we're seeing such a wide range of shows -- they're testing to see what works and what doesn't, and apparently they're now leaning away from comedy.
I understand this and agree with you, that this is most likely what we are seeing. Still, with the experience of running networks from both sides (Warner Bros. and CBS) one would think that running things they way they have would produce better results.

Thank you for the update on Aliens. I guess the next 7 episodes will be the telling point. I believe this coming Sunday's episode will be their best episode to date!!! A lot of Scott-time. To me, that makes the show worth watching.

I am really looking forward to this next Scott-focused episode. Should be really fun to watch.

Is it really possible the cancellation is not a done deal?

The CW has renewed one comedy for next year, "Everybody Hates Chris." The critically-acclaimed sitcom "Aliens in America" is on the fence.

It doesn't mean the network is out of the comedy business, the CW insisted. It's a recognition that, as of now, one-hour dramas and reality series like "America's Next Top Model" are working best in the ratings.
I wonder what they'll they pair EHC with if AiA is canceled. Do they have any other half hour shows?

That's a very good question. Aren't all the reality shows on now an hour?

AMTM, Pussycat Dolls etc.

I was hoping for a Alien sandwich with maybe Chris leading in and then ANTM.

Wonder if the CW is hearing from the critics about Aliens and that's why it's now on the 'bubble'

I'm not sure they have another half hour show -- not unless they give "Online Nation" another try (Ugh)

I have read thru all the post since I was on last night and I agree with a lot of what people said. Different people really find different things funny. I have tired to watch Earl, the Office other shows like that and I hate them. I don't find one thing funny about them yet people love them. Although I found some of Gary's facial expressions a little over the top, I thought Scott was awesome at the comedy angle. I agree with KbatMo that I laugh my a** off at him every show. Maybe that is not your type of humor but in my humble opinion Scott did a great job.

As for the CW I feel they marketed only certain shows. I for one am tired of all the promos for Gossip Girl and Top Model.

One last thought, as far as Lauren Graham being such a bankable actress I don"t agree. What movie has she been in that was a hit?? Bad Santa, I don't think so...Evan Almightly... I think that made it to DVD in record time so she is going to have to prove she is more than just Lorelai too!

OT - Lauren really hasn't been a lead in any movie yet, I hope she is one day then maybe better things will happen, I do agree as far as movie's go she is not a bankable star yet, maybe next season we'll see her back on TV doing guest spots before getting a new show for the following season?

"Hunting" is on tomorrow night. From the description and the previews on the CW site, it looks like it's going to be the best episode to date. I'm really looking forward to episode.

Maybe, just maybe, it might turn things around in the eyes of TPTB.

I think they should have moved it sooner. The reruns on Sunday were simply make good airings for the advertisers but it might have done better on Sundays earlier in the season. It had two strikes against them on Monday. The first is that the demo for the CW Monday night line up is NOT AiA's demo. The second is it was up against another sitcom Big Bang Theory which is it's demo. And I have to say I like BBT better.

Hopefully SP will find a better show down the road.

Given the fact that Aliens' numbers weren't high to begin with, their first 5 episodes were higher on Monday nights than for all the nights on Sundays afterwards. The encore episode on Sunday nites at 7:30 didn't improve the viewership and the numbers dropped again when it went solo on Sunday nites at 8:30.

You could chalk that up to the storyline being weak; and/or the show just fell out of favor for a mixture of reasons -- one of them being the timeslot of Sunday night (even with all the sports going on at the time).

Aliens was never going to be big enough to tangle with the Big 3 -- I had hoped it might give Fox a run -- it didn't. I think moving the show around so quickly (what after 3 episodes??) wasn't a good sign. They should have kept with Monday nites and promoted the heck outta it. After all, it did get nominated for a People's Choice Award and received great reviews by critics. Too bad the CW didn't seize on that and run with it.

The show(s) that just won't die

The article is mainly CW and Supernatural centric (which is how I came across it) but there is a little mention of the show and it's status.

Well, I love The Office AND Aliens In America. But I get what you're saying about subjectivity, and I agree.

I still laugh when I think about Gary getting his tie stuck in the garbage disposal. "How did this happen?" The whole cast is very good, I think. They make me laugh and keep me entertained for half an hour, which is really all I'm looking for in a sitcom.

I've seen a couple of the movies she's been in. She's either the girlfriend or the wife, and the characters are hardly stretches from Lorelai. [Whereas there was no trace of Luke in the detective SP played in SAW IV.] I don't think she's a bankable film actress [i.e., she's no Renee Zellweger]. But it could still happen.

I still have SAW to see but I have to agree as well.

That being said she has some new movie's coming out this year, maybe these new ones will be better and give her a chance to show acting abilities again.

Has anyone seen tv ads for Aliens for this upcoming episode? I've seen one commercial on the CW once -- that's it. The rest of the week it has been me tapping into the CW website. I hope the news spreads out for tonite's episode. I really feel that it's going to be Aliens best to date -- and there's no promotion of the show. Sad, very sad.
