We didn't havve enough time to truly grow to love Gary and for Gary to grow. Remember it took a bit for Luke to grow too.

I agree, I like Scott was doing something totally different from the Luke we all love, I just hope he gets what he wants now Aliens is over.

I wonder how different AiA would have been with the other Gary playing the role?

I would bet even less popular than it got with Scott as Gary. Part of the reason Scott was chosen was for his popularity with GG -- taking it for a spin. Sad thing about it was that it was a CW show. To me, it was cute while it lasted. I would not have considered watching Aliens if it were not for Scott.

I'll be the first to admit that the first few episodes kind of irritated me a little but I've grown fond of all the characters (except for Claire, I find it so weird that she was on Ned's before and now she's a little bit skanky.)

I love the story lines too.

I would've watched it! I'd have really liked the concept and immediately liked + respected the other actors - especially Adhir Kalyan, Amy Pietz, and Dan Byrd. Lindsey Shaw was good but she's didn't make or break it for me ... and if she's got star potential it's more for her looks than her acting ability. For me, Scott took it from "like" to "love"!
I also think they were v. lucky to get Scott ... there was something illogical about the original actor cast as father ... how can Amy Pietz's Franny keep trying everything to make her son popular in school - even going as far as arranging for an exchange student/ friend ... while she's married to a total nebbish?! Whereas the juxtaposition of Scott as a former jock vs. the nebbishy son = comedy and drama!!

I probably wouldn't have given it a second thought without Scott, same goes for Melissa in Sam Who?

Loved the cute scenes with Amy and Scott, it was what I wished Luke and Lorelai would become in some ways, a real family. They whole cast was great and like Scott I'm sure they'll go on to bigger and better things.

ITA, lancer! I thought it really showed in last week's ep., too ... they have that long-time married couple way of looking at one another and they almost don't have to speak. Plus - they're always holding hands, touching, snuggling.... I think on GG they didn't want to overdo it ... and they failed to realize that with Scott there's no such thing!!!!!

I agree. I don't want to agree, but I do.

And I still wish Amy had toned down her accent more. Kept a little more low key.../peeve

It didn't bother me! The first time I heard Scott's Gary voice (Pilot) - I freaked!!! But I instantly liked the show - and caught on that he was playing it for broad laughs.

Scott's "accent" never bothered me because it was pretty subtle and really faded out. He's got his own accent, it's like north eastern mixed with a southern drawl.

I love listening to all of Scott's inflections. Maybe his intonation changed during the middle of Aliens because he felt comfortable that enough time had passed to not be confused with the "Luke" voice. He really doesn't sound like Luke when he speaks in interviews. I think he was trying really hard to portray a person from Wisconsin -- but I enjoyed the flecks of "Jersey" in some of the episodes -- Homecoming was one of them.

I think what bothered a lot of people was they were used to Scott as Luke for so long, so Gary was a big shock.

How maybe here saw the original pilot without Scott?

That's a problem with every fandom.

I love Luke, but I love Scott as an actor as well. I wouldn't love Luke as much if Scott hadn't played him. It's time to move on (says the Luke obsessed girl) and see that Scott's got other stuff goin' on.

For me it's not that I can't "move on." Yes, I love Luke and all, but I don't expect SP to always play a "Luke" type guy. I just honestly didn't like Gary as a character (he got on my nerves) and I didn't like the show.

I know SP is very talented so I'm looking forward to seeing him in other things that I actually like and that aren't "Luke." I loved him in Saw 4.
