Aliens in America 1.12 – Hunting ~ Episode Discussion

SUNDAY, MARCH 9

"ALIENS IN AMERICA" (8:30-9:00 p.m. ET)

"Hunting" (TV-14, DL) (HDTV)

INTO THE WOODS When the high school conducts career aptitude testing, Raja (Adhir Kalyan) is told he should become a doctor, but Justin (Dan Byrd) shows no aptitude for any particular career. Franny (Amy Pietz) and Gary (Scott Patterson) put so much pressure on Justin to choose a career path, that he escapes to the home of his buddy Dooley (Adam Rose), where he notices that Dooley's father is a stay-at-home-dad. Justin's announcement that he has found his calling and plans to stay home and nurture his future family convinces Gary that a "manly" hunting trip with the boys is in order. Unfortunately, Raja's fascination with Gary's crossbow results in an embarrassing accident. Meanwhile, the normally close mother/daughter relationship between Franny and Claire (Lindsey Shaw) turns combative and leads to a confrontation in a local nightclub. Daisy Mayer directed the episode written by Robia Rashid (#111).

Commando!!!

I can't wait to see this episode -- not only funny but maybe poignant as well.

It will be interesting to see the dialogue between Franny and Claire How Mom deals with her 15-1/2 year old daughter going to a night club. Should be interesting. Knowing the show there will be some quirky humor in it as well. The guy stuff will keep me in stitches.

If the previews are any kind of indicator, I really think that this episode will be marked in the top 3 of it's best to date. There's action from all members of the family that will be memorable.

Waiting with anticipation. Pizza nite for this episode

I don't know how, or don't have the capability to "top" this thread

You bet Michelle. If there's a fire, it will have to wait. No calls, not disturbing. Lorelai's movie rules apply here.

The first thing I'll do when I wake up is check this thread for reactions. Then it's the long, tortuous wait for it to show up on itunes. That's the downside of being an Expat.

TPTB need to get these shows up and running on the net a lot quicker -- will probably be second-nature to everyone in about a year. I wish a 24-hr or less turnaround for you NGNM. Wanna come back to the US???

Thanks SPA! Proximity to family and access to SP shows are huge attractions, but our uh, ''commander in chief' (quotes ironic) and his evil puppet master make me want to endlessly vomit.

OT: I would love it if we got a bare chested hospital scene of Gary. I hope he gets lots of TLC from Franny as well as Justin.

Say goodnight, Gracie.

Good Heavens where do I start??

First of all no commercials or ads about Aliens for 3 hours before the show. It's a crime.

Justin wasn't nerdy this time around.

Raja going nuts about being a doctor - suturing a banana!!! Oh the implications

Justin wearing an apron and making waffles -- looked like he was dumping the batter from the bowl into the waffle iron -- I had visions of Lucille Ball or Katharine Hepburn in Woman of the Year.

Is it me, or did Gary look particularly more yummy tonite???

Gary: "Gun to your head, what do you want to be. Gun to your head. Gun to your head."

Franny: "Gare -- could you holster it please?"

And wow on Claire -- 15 years old and cussing at her mom -- calling her mom "Fran".

And what's with the banana theme in tonite's episode?? Actually all kinds of fruits -- oranges too.

The fights between mom and daughter -- flashback to my teenage years. I'll have to ask my mom about that -- maybe not.

Maureen, Franny's friend -- telling Gary "Territorial much? Why don't you just paint a little circle around her. Pig." when he kisses his wife (BTW, he's wearning a suit and carrying a briefcase. Yup, Gary's working -- don't know what but he's got a job). I don't think Maureen is a happy person

And I've decided that Gary looks hot in wine colored knit tops. He looked svelte in that outfit.

Gary telling Justin: "It's tough enough for you to get girls, why add extra handicaps." After Franny says that if Justin wants to be a house husband, he better marry a rich girl.

House Husband -- I'm getting used to that term -- never saw one before.

Gary listening to his wife and his daughter fight and wisely says "Sometimes, they just need their space." Wise man.

Oh, and Justin as a 5 year old boy shoving a ball in his shirt and telling his dad that he's going to have a baby like mommy. -- Dad took him hunting that day too. {paraphrasing -- can't type here what was really said -- but it was hilarious -- I wonder what that child actor will remember when he's, let's say 16)

Gary: "Nothing like some fresh air and some dead animals to really clear your mnd."

And I think Scott is bow-legged -- his trot in the woods kinda looked like it.

The woods/hunting scene was too precious. Gary: "Get it out of me. Get it out of me!" (sooooo durdy!!)

Gary all drugged up was cute. "All I really need is a nap, and some soup with bread, and a rootbeer float, and warmer socks, and could someone comb my hair?" All directed at the House Husband-in-training. And Justin saying "And just like that, I had a baby."

Raja's fear of blood and pain -- and saying the word "Tush" priceless. Gary calling out to Justin "Justin, I need you. And hurry. Puss and blood seeping from my bandage and I need a new one.!!" Justin and Raja's pained looks.

I liked the storyline of Claire and Franny. Mother and daughter coming to terms with one another. Claire growing up. Franny being extremely patient.

Gary and Justin coming to terms with each other -- acceptance. Justin "Well, if taking care of a baby is half as annoying as taking care of you I don't think I have it in me. I'll figure out this future stuff, dad."

Raja fainting at Gary's wound and Claire asking if he's dead.

Oh, oh, and Gary telling Raja "Thanx Shooter," I use that phrase all the time -- Hey Shooter. Thanx Shooter. I know it had subliminal meanings, but it made me smile.

This episode did not disappoint, I thought it was the best to date.

Also, did the bit where Gary was sitting at hte table saying something to Justin about him being a house hubby remind you a little of Luke? I forgot what it was exactly, i'll rewatch.

"Where a condom or your penis will fall off. If not now, it will eventually" Maybe the banana had to do with that? hahaha
