1. When you were growing up, other than your parents, who was a positive influential person in your life and why?

Jane Foster – a lady about 10 years older than my parents who took me under her wing and introduced the world of literature; bought me my first party dress; took me to my first French Restaurant; taught me how to embroider; and would sit and watch the tv series “Batman” with Adam West and Burt Ward – her favorite character was Cesar Romero as the Joker. My mother was saddled with 3 kids in diapers and really didn’t have a lot of time to spend with me. Jane considered me the daughter she always wanted but never had. She’s quite a lady with class; and she’s still taking trips around the world at almost 90!!

CityZen in Washington, D.C. It was a night to remember for me. My beau took me there last year for a nyte to remember – and it was that and more. CityZen

Week 4

1. When you were growing up, other than your parents, who was a positive influential person in your life and why?

Maternal grandma. For holidays, she always had her kids, their spouses and grandkids over to her house. She taught me the importance of family. She was a no-nonsense lady who taught my cousins and I to sew, make crafts, some cooking, and just so many things. Most importantly though, she taught me the importance of treating others as you want to be treated, owning your mistakes and making them right, and having integrity to do what is right even when no one is looking. She was raised on a farm in Kansas, and had ‘sayings’ for just about everything, most of which I carry with me to this day. My brothers and I, and now my own kids, still use her old sayings and laugh every time. I miss her.

All of them, of course!! One of my favorites is Scott as Luke sitting at the table in the Inn during Raincoats and Recipes, when he looks up at Lorelai. The look melts me.

1. When you were growing up, other than your parents, who was a positive influential person in your life and why?
I would say that would be a) my mothers girlfriend (they dated while I was 3 but we're still incontact) she is just a wonderful, slightly crazy, confident and "sunny" person that thought me alot about myself, treasuring what I had and to get what I wanted.
Second would be a man I consider my second father. Him and his wife have been longtime friends of our family and he just - he was always there for me, no matter when. when I had a fight with my parents, I'd go there, in the middle of the night, and he'd be there. Listen to me, help me in any way that he could. I just love him so much

1. When you were growing up, other than your parents, who was a positive influential person in your life and why? My "Grandma," may she rest in peace. Many reasons ... I think of her every single day. Although she lived during times when women did not have the same opportunities as men (for the most part) - and wasn't a feminist or 'women's libber' per se - she'd frequently tell me that when I grew up, I'd do whatever I wanted ... if I put my mind to it. She gave me tons of unconditional love and friendship(!) ... and really believed in me.

2. What is you favorite color? blue - the color of the sky right at or just before dusk.

3. What is your favorite restaurant to go to for dinner to celebrate a special occasion? Joe's Stone Crabs - a local "institution"
Joe's Stone Crab The stories on the website about the history of Joe's (goes back to 1913!) are 10 times as long as the story of Sniffy the dog in "Luke's has a Luke's" scene of WITS. Some interesting folks have visited over the years - including Joe DiMaggio, sports fans. However, no dogs die (per website)- that I can tell. And AlsoFYI - when the stone crab fishermen remove the claw - the crab survives and is thrown back ... another claw regenerates so (supposedly) it's a renewable resource. Please do not ask me how they survive with one claw - or if it hurts! However Florida (spiny) lobsters have no claws - just a big tail (nowhere near as yummy as Maine lobsters) - so evidently it's possible to make do crawling along the seabottom without them. Other places offer stone crabs (Oct 15-May 15) but no other place has all the great side dishes - plus the best key lime pie in the world! Warning to tourists - expensive (but splurge-worthy!)

7. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? (evolution, ages 6 to 12): a stewardess (now known as a flight attendant), then first woman Jewish president of the U.S., and then a lawyer (as I learned most presidents were lawyers!)

Continued from #7: After I found out how many years you had to go to school to become a lawyer, I thought I might become a teacher...! Today - no grand illusions/ delusions ... I want to feel that my work is changes something for the better - even infinitesmally ... in some way - somehow, sometime.

My big sister Karen. When she was 16 and I was eight, she got a job at the town library and basically rescued my intellect by bringing me books. I can't imagine my life without my insatiable love for reading. She was also politically aware at a young age and never afraid to stand up for what's right.

3. What is your favorite restaurant to go to for dinner to celebrate a special occasion? There's a joint that's been around in my hometown forever called Joe's Cafe. I love the laid back, friendly atmosphere and Italian food.

When I was about five, I used to tell everyone I wanted to be a bird when I grew up. I would emphasize the idea by "flying" around and making a buzzing noise. By 6 or 7, I wanted to be the first girl to play Major League Baseball and be a cartoonist in the offseason.

That Damn Donna Reed, PS I Love You, The Clamor & The Clangor, Last Week Fights This Week Tights, Raincoats and Recipes, Written in the Stars (mainly for the naked torso shots; there are parts of that ep I otherwise find disappointing.
