1. What was your favorite class subject in high school? Least favorite?
I liked a lot of subjects (still do, in fact). Biology was probably my favorite followed by English, History, and Chemistry. I hated French. It wasn't the language per se, I'm just horrible at learning new ones.

2. What is one of your fears?
I don't have any phobias. I injured my back about five years ago and the pain is getting worse. I guess I'm afraid it will get so bad I will become immobile (as a doctor warned). It has already significantly slowed down my sports/adventure activities.

3. What is the theme of your 2008 wall/desk calendar?
In my classroom, I have a WWF (World Wildlife Fund) wall calendar. Until January, I had a Far Side page-a-day calendar, but they didn't make one for 2008! Talk about a bummer! At home I have a George Bush Out of Office Countdown calendar (sorry, Scooter )

4. What color are your eyes?
Blue.

5. What type of TV series role would you like to see Scott in next?
I would be so happy to see him in anything, but if I could choose it would be witty yet dark drama from HBO or Showtime. If I had anyone's ear in Hollywood, I'd pitch a drama based on the Cape Cod baseball league. Scott would star as the coach.

Growing up, what was your favorite cartoon character?
I was a Snoopy maniac growing up. I drew him all the time and I even could dance and laugh like him.

7. What was your first job?
I hated babysitting, (I don't know how you did it, SPA! Ironically, I have been working with kids for twenty years. Go figure.) so at 14 I got a job picking cucumbers, which almost sucked as much as trying to get a three year old to go to bed.

8. What is one of your achievements which makes you proud?
I am proud that I got a fellowship to graduate school when I was 21. It allowed me to earn my Masters for free and support myself at the same time. Last year, I was shocked to find out that I was going to be inducted into my college's Athletic Hall of Fame. I had to give a speech and everything (scary)! Living life on my own terms is probably what makes me most proud.

9. What is one goal that you have set for yourself that you will likely attain in the next five years?
This is tricky because I am a "live in the moment" kind of gal. Right now, the goal is to stay still for a little while. I'm going to try to tie my record and stay in the same country for the next four years.

10. If a genie in a bottle granted you three wishes, what would they be?
First, I'd have him make Scott fall madly in love with me. Next would be "Lorelai metabolism" for everyone. Finally, love and happiness for all.

11. What books have been important in your life and why?

Reading is a big part of my life, so this is hard. I'll try to scale it down by choosing one or two books to stand for particular milestones or categories. The categories are in pink. Here goes:
Coming-of Age: To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. I identified strongly with Scout. I also just fell in love with Atticus and admired him for his courage. Integrity is so sexy--Gregory Peck was perfectly cast in the film version.

Which Side are you on?: Bound for Glory by Woody Guthrie. I read this one summer in high school after learning that Woody Guthrie was Bob Dylan's idol. No offense to Jack Kerouac fans, but I'll take this over On the Road any day. Loved Woody's fiery stands against racism and bigotry. Loved how he gave voice to the voiceless through his music. This book inspired me to try and see the world warts and all.

What are you going to do with your life???: It seems like a lot of people go into college knowing what they want to do. Not me. I finally settled on education and never looked back. There are so many books that have helped me find my teaching identity. Here are two: Teaching as a Subversive Activity by Neil Postman and Charles Weingartner and The Dialectic of Freedom by Maxine Greene. I couldn't resist the title of the first book when I plucked it off the shelf from my favorite bookstore way back in my first year of teaching. I was just a puppy--but a hungry one, and that book fueled my fire. I would recommend any book by Neil Postman, btw (Sadly, he died in 2003). Maxine Greene is one of my heroes for her intellect, her compassion, and her commitment to freedom, aesthetics, and education. All of her books are amazing, in my opinion.

Screw off your head, turn it inside-out, and reattach it sideways: In Bluebeard's Castle Some Notes Toward the Redefinition of Culture by George Steiner. The category says it all; this book made me interpret events and modern history in a new way. I like that.

Don't just accept the absurdity--embrace it!::Skinny Legs and All by Tom Robbins. Read this when I was about twenty-five and quickly gobbled up his previous books and continue to read anything he writes. Robbins is a good writer to discover in your twenties. He'll help kick start your free spiritedness into overdrive, baby. His books are philosophical, irreverent, sexy, madcap, playful, perverse, rebellious, ridiculous, profound, and silly. He writes sentences that boldly go where no sentence has ever gone before. And if he veers a little too much towards the mystical for my taste, I'll forgive him. His novels do not translate well into film (Even Cowgirls Get the Blues is exhibit A), but if Fierce Invalids Home from Hot Climates ever gets adapted for the screen, I want to see Scott cast as Switters.

No man is an island/Give us empathy or give us death:
Continental Drift by Russell Banks and Ministry of Fear by Graham Greene. Both books and authors are so great at creating flawed, deeply human characters thrown into events beyond their control. These books make you ache before you get walloped.

Knowledge is beautiful: The Blind Watchmaker by Richard Dawkins, Darwin's Dangerous Idea by Daniel C. Dennett, and A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson. I have read nearly every book by Dawkins, and this was my first. It represents the death of boredom for me. There is just so much to marvel about just from a glance out of a window. From the incredible complexity of bat echolocation to the flying strategies of birds, his books have heightened my experience of the world.

What happens when a philosopher understands science? Great books like Dan Dennett's. His ability to create metaphors to help you understand ideas is unparalleled, in my opinion.

I still find it hard to believe that Bryson was able to do what he did in his book. Not only did he go through the history of how we came to know answers to questions such as how big is the Earth?, he does it in an accessible, entertaining way. I wanna have this book's baby.

Well I tried to keep that list down, really! Sorry for the long response, but I like the "why's" to things, so I had to elaborate.

I better quit now though. I'll finish tomorrow.

Thanks Razzle! Finishing up:

12. Describe a "turning point" in your life.
When I was 20 years old, I arranged with the help of a well-connected Geography professor to do a semester of student teaching in Galway, Ireland. I had never been on a plane prior to that and had barely been outside the New England states in the US. I wasn't alone, though; another student went with me and we became fast friends. We had a midterm break of ten days in October, and we planned to hitchhike across to Dublin and on to Cork where we had tickets to see Van Morrison. Long story short, my friend's US boyfriend showed up unexpectedly at the last minute relegating me to instant, "third-wheel" status. It was one of the best things that has ever happened to me. Seeing as it was practically impossible for a trio to get lifts anyway, I said, "Maybe I'll see you in Dublin, otherwise I'll meet you at the concert in a week." So began a sort of magical mini-odyssey for me. I learned that I loved the spontaneity and adventure of solo travel. I learned to take more risks and not to panic when things went wrong. I learned to enjoy my own company and the joys of talking to strangers. Most of all, I learned that the journey is equally, if not more, important than the destination. Oh, I also learned that Van Morrison rules! (My friend and her boyfriend never showed).

13. Ever meet someone famous? Who? What happened?
Not many, but a few interesting folks. I've had the pleasure of meeting Arlo Guthrie a couple of times. He lives near my hometown, and he is wonderful.

I also met Abbie Hoffman, the notorious Chicago 8 (or 7 depending how you count 'em) defendant, Co-founder of the Yippies, and author of Steal this Book (among others). I met him a party celebrating his, Amy Carter's, and nine others' acquittal for trespassing during a protest against CIA recruitment on the UMass campus. I think the party marked the one year anniversary of the victory so it must have been 1988. It was a 60's themed party and Abbie was trying out standup comedy (he wasn't very good). I was all decked out in tie-dye and lovebeads with the spirit and energy of a kid at Woodstock. Abbie was in a foul mood. His standup routine didn't go well and he was wearing a cast on his hand and wrist. I happened to be wearing a pair of plastic scissors made to look like the were going through my arm (like the Steve Martin, arrow through the head gag). Anyway, at one point, I was pretty close to him, and a handler said something like, "Abbie's not doing any autographs tonight. He is still in pain." At that point, Abbie turned and made eye contact with me, so I held up my arm and said in my best paranoid voice, "What did THEY do, put scissors through your wrist?!" Well that made him smile and then laugh, so he walked up and put his arm around my shoulder as an Associated Press (I came to find out) journalist snapped our picture and got my name. I thought for sure I would get disowned by the conservative members of my family, but as far as I know, the picture was never published. I probably have an FBI file though.

My favorite celebrity meeting came in 1995. I was working in an international school in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania when I got involved with Jane Goodall's environmental/children's rights organization called Roots & Shoots. We were planning a week of activities and I was helping to organize a soccer tournament for local schools to be held on my school's campus. Me and a couple of friends got to meet Jane at her house to plan it. She was so down-to-earth and just cool. Her modest beach bungalow was in a nearby village with no security. Most people of means in Tanzania lived behind high walls adorned with broken glass with askaris (Swahili for soldier) to watch the property. Not Jane. Her yard was open to the village children. I remember she served us yummy chocolate cake she had made, and all I could think was, I can't believe I'm sitting next to Jane Goodall eating chocolate cake. I was a little starstruck by her. I still am.

14. Everyone has a scar or two. Tell the story behind one of the scars on your body. I have a scar on my left elbow from surgery I needed after smashing it up because I got thrown from a galloping horse. That's a story for another time and also the reason for my screwed up back.

The thing about this scar that I like is how it conjures up a memory that always makes me smile. I had never had surgery before or even spent a night in a hospital, so I was jokingly lamenting to my friends at the hospital that I felt kind of lame for having such a mundane injury for my first operation ever, and perhaps they could come up with something better. Later on, as I was being wheeled away on a gurney, my friend Mike called out, "Good luck with the baboon heart!"

15. Scott is sexy. What do you find sexiest about his personality and his physique?

Physique: His face is what draws me in and his shoulders and chest make me crazy. I love his masculine structure: his brow, his chin and jaw, his broad shoulders. He has the sexiest lips, too. But there are elements of cuteness to him that I find I find irresistible such as his long lashes, his grin, and his high, "chipmunk" cheeks.

Personality: This is what truly separates him from others, and why he's my only celeb crush. I love his outward demeanor. He's friendly, good-hearted, self-effacing, easy-going, articulate, and mischievous. I love how he likes to tease people (as he does several interviews I've seen). He is down-to-earth and doesn't possess any of the "Look at me!" or "Must-create-drama-now" characteristics so common today. He takes his work seriously, but not himself.

I love that he's intrepid and lives life to the fullest. He's intelligent, complex, artistic, athletic, well-read , and talented. What a combination! He appreciates his fans, and quietly uses his celebrity to support good causes. He's generous, loyal, and sweet. He's confident but not cocky, manly but not macho. I just love him.

Really good answer.
I can only agree to you. And hey, I love him too.

I have no idea if I am doing this right by just answering the questions, but I hope so.

1. What was your favorite class subject in high school? Least favorite?

My favorite subject was everything connected with languages. German, English, french, spanish. Give me any (still spoken) language to learn and I am happy. Least fvorite was maths (together with chemistry and physics) because I never understood what exactly was going on.

2. What is one of your fears?
I guess my biggest fear is always that I annoy other people. When I was a kid I didn't speak to any of my parents friends because I always thought I would just annoy them anyway. When I meet new people they sometimes think I am kind of reserved and don't want to talk to them, but that's not true. But the thought alone that I talk to them and they think "Jeez, why can't she shut up?" is freaking me out.

3. What is the theme of your 2008 wall/desk calendar?

I've had the same calendar for the last two years now. It's a calendar a friend gave me for Christmas. It's a Javajunkie Calendar with pictures of Luke and Lorelai.

4. What color are your eyes?

Brown

5. What type of TV series role would you like to see Scott in next?
Something more serious than AIA and something less bloody than SAW

6. Growing up, what was your favorite cartoon character?
The Coyote. I still think it's hilarious when he tries to hunt Roadrunner

7. What was your first job?
I worked at a car dealership on the weekends at the counter to greet the clients and to answer the phone.

8. What is one of your achievements which makes you proud?
I personally like it that I speak so many languages. Of course, I make faults, but I am able to understand what people say and I like that a lot.

9. What is one goal that you have set for yourself that you will likely attain in the next five years?
Finish college and go abroad

10. If a genie in a bottle granted you three wishes, what would they be?

A family (husband, kids)in five years, health and finacial stability for my family

11. What books have been important in your life and why?

As a kid it was "The eyes of Ana Marta" by Alice Vieira, because I could identify myself so much with the protagonist. I still read the book sometimes, especially when I am sad. It helps.
Later I read "Give me one wish" by Jacquie Gordon and I don't think I ever cried so hard again than when reading this book. It helped me to understand that there are things so muchnworse than the every day problems, that seem so small in comparison

12. Describe a "turning point" in your life.
the death of my uncle. I was 8 when he wanted to finish his doctors degree in chemistry. He did some tests, not knowing that there had been someone breaking and entering the night before. The guy had mixed several chemical substances and when my uncle started the test the whole thing exploded. The security shower wasn't working, there was no blanket. He had horrible burnings and never awoke again. He died two weeks later being only 28 years old.

13. Ever meet someone famous? Who? What happened?
A good friend of mine is a somehow famous musician. Luckily he is only playing percussion so he isn't recognized that often out on the streets. I met him a few years ago during one of his gigs. he knew a friend of my mom and so we started talking and became good friends.

14. Everyone has a scar or two. Tell the story behind one of the scars on your body.
I have a really long scar that basically covers my whole right forearm. Story is easy. I had a huge birth mark there and that needed to be cut out when I was 13. they operated me the first time, but couldn't cut out everything, so the next operation followed half a years later. Funny thing is that the narcosis wasn't working and they had to inject something for 5 times. In the end I still felt the last 4 stitches and my circulation colapsed when I wanted to get up after the operation, because of the overdosis of narcosis. Oh the fun!

15. Scott is sexy. What do you find sexiest about his personality and his physique?
I don't know him so I can't say much about his personality. People are different most of the time when you know them in private than when they are on TV.
And about his physique: I like his eyes and I like it when he smiles

1. DO YOU SNORE?

Apparently I do. I always seem to get woke up by Cat Kirk putting his paw in my mouth. That has to be official kitty code for “stop snoring mom, I'm trying to sleep.”

2. LOVER OR A FIGHTER?

99% lover 1% fighter

3. WHAT'S YOUR WORST FEAR?

Loosing a loved one suddenly

4. AS A KID, WERE YOU A LEGO BUILDER?

Oh yeah! Some of my earliest memories are of building lego forts with my older cousins

5. WHAT DO YOU THINK OF "REALITY TV"?

Totally scripted but if I’m looking for mind numbing entertainment, I just need to flip on the TV for a few minutes

6. DO YOU CHEW ON YOUR STRAWS?

Straws, no. Pens however…

7. WERE YOU A CUTE BABY?

Um, by all accounts I was. What happened????

8. HOW IS THE SINGLE LIFE FOR YOU?

It’s okay; I love that I can do what I want whenever I want, but I’m starting to have that “relationship itch”. Unfortunately for me, there are no guys on the radar right now.

9. WHAT COLOR IS YOUR KEYBOARD?

Black

10. DO YOU SING IN THE SHOWER?

Shower no. Car, all the time.

Anywhere but here!

Love it!

I get hung up somewhere around U

Once, but I was too young to really remember it

Most antibiotics, cigarette smoke, my siblings, and I’m starting to think cat dander

I’m going to have to say no. I’ve only been to 1 wedding and I was the flower girl so ya’ll can take a guess on how long ago that was.

22. HOW DO YOU LIKE YOUR EGGS?

hard boiled or scrambled

24. IS MCDONALD'S DISGUSTING?

Totally. Fast food in general is disgusting but if I have to eat it, I’ll go the extra mile or two to eat at a local 50's drive in.

Last Friday

Currently it’s ice water with a slice of lemon and lots of ice. I’m a chocoholic as well.

28. CRUNCHY OR CREAMY PEANUT BUTTER?

Crunchy, except if I’m putting it on an apple and then I prefer creamy

29. HAVE YOU EVER RIDDEN IN AN AMBULANCE?

Yep. I grew up in a very small town in Montana and they decided to ship me 100 miles to the nearest surgical hospital in the middle of winter and the highway was closed because of being too icy.

1. DO YOU SNORE? No (unless I have a cold)
2. LOVER OR A FIGHTER? 65L/35F
3. WHAT'S YOUR WORST FEAR? Heights (losing loved ones doesn't thrill me either)
4. AS A KID, WERE YOU A LEGO BUILDER? Not as a kid; was a Lego builder when I used to babysit in my teens ... liked taking apart small electronic stuff and putting it back together
5. WHAT DO YOU THINK OF "REALITY TV"? I do not watch it. I believe it was prophesied correctly in the film "Network" (mid 1970s). Unfortunately, no one else is shouting: "I'm mad as he!! - and I'm not going to take it anymore!"
6. DO YOU CHEW ON YOUR STRAWS? No
7. WERE YOU A CUTE BABY? Decide for yourself - this was taken on my first birthday:

8. HOW IS THE SINGLE LIFE FOR YOU? It has its plusses and minuses. What's important to me is living a fulfilling life - period. On my own, I do have more time for reading, for creative endeavors ... and am more apt to stay in the present moment. I relate to something written above by NGNM - most of my greatest travel experiences on trips have occurred when goin' solo. Sometimes I miss that special someone - but I don't believe there's only 1 special person per lifetime! I've already had two great loves in adulthood(!) If another comes into my life - terrific! If not, I'm still going to have lots of love in my life and lots to see and do! It's corny, but I genuinely believe happiness is an inside job.
9. WHAT COLOR IS YOUR KEYBOARD? Black (and silver)
10. DO YOU SING IN THE SHOWER? Not usually ( ... but it has happened ... I've also been known to sing out of the shower!)
11. HAVE YOU EVER BUNGEE JUMPED? No!!
12. ANY SECRET TALENTS? Well if they're secret....
13. WHAT'S YOUR IDEAL VACATION SPOT? Island with beautiful beaches (Paris and London aren't bad either!)
14. HAVE YOU EATEN SUSHI? Yes - love it! But I'm always careful to go to or order from restaurants I know are clean - and have do lots of business. (turnover = fresher fish!)
15. HOW MANY LICKS DOES IT TAKE TO GET TO THE CENTER OF A TOOTSIE POP? Always lose count!
16. CAN YOU SING THE ALPHABET BACKWARDS? Okay - just 'cause it's too coincidental. I have a great-uncle (now deceased) - who loved telling jokes - kind of a Henny Youngman for those who know what I mean. He even kept a card catalog of jokes. Up to age 90++ , he'd visit a nursing home in his area once a week to perform for the residents. Ever since childhood he and I had a special rapport; perhaps because when my father passed away (~I was 7 1/2 y.o.), he went out of his way to tell me some jokes, and I hadn't seen him in many years so I didn't remember him - perfect timing for a new, fun relative. (Also possible I'm the only one in the family who always laughed at his jokes!) Anyway, I was in second grade then. He asked me if I could say the alphabet backwards. I recited - Z, Y, X ... B, A. He replied - "That's not it." "But I said all the letters - backwards!!" He said here's how you do it. (We'd been standing, facing each other.) He turned around - with his back to me - and said "A, B, C...." After that, at every family occasion, he'd ask me if I remembered how to say the alphabet backwards - smiles all around.
17. HAVE YOU EVER BEEN ON AN AIRPLANE? Many times
18. ARE SPEEDO'S HOT? On men or women? And which styles?! The men's teeny bikinis are a surefire way to spot European and French-Canadian men on American beaches (even in South Beach)!
19. DO YOU LIKE YOUR HANDWRITING? Not particularly
20. WHAT ARE YOU ALLERGIC TO? What am I not allergic to? = much shorter list.
21. DO YOU CRY AT WEDDINGS? It happened to me a couple of times ... shocked the daylights out of myself!
22. HOW DO YOU LIKE YOUR EGGS? Used to love "sunny side up" but those are out these days (taking a pass on the salmonella) ... scrambled or omelets, I guess - though I eat them rarely.
24. IS MCDONALD'S DISGUSTING? Of course! Do I go once in a while? Yeah ... though I can't remember the last time I went to Mickey D's. When I crave a fast burger, and there's a choice, I prefer Burger King. Must say - the less often you eat that stuff, the worse it tastes when you do!
25. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU WERE IN A CAR? A few days ago.
26. ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK? No.
27. WHAT ARE YOU ADDICTED TO? Dark chocolate/Scott (50/50?)
28. CRUNCHY OR CREAMY PEANUT BUTTER? Crunchy!
29. HAVE YOU EVER RIDDEN IN AN AMBULANCE? Yes, once.
30. WHAT COLOR ARE YOUR EYES? Brown.
31. DO YOU PLAY ANY INSTRUMENTS? Yes - piano - but not well!
32. CAN YOU DO THE MOONWALK? Nope. I think the technical term for it would be "spazzy" - and that's being polite.
33. WHAT'S THE MOST ANNOYING TV COMMERCIAL? They all are - except during the Superbowl. That Geico gecko grates on my nerves. The early part of GG-S7 - they had those American Eagle ads - they were obnoxious! Insult to injury after the S6 finale fiasco!
