I'm so glad you started this thread, Jen.

So, I tuned into The Starlet tonight expecting to be at least somewhat disappointed, and of course I was - NO ONE can touch Hil and what she brought to that scene. Like Jen said, I would have been really pissed if they had done the bathroom scene - because that one was even better and more intense.

But I was so glad that they showed a clip of Hil - I got all teary and emotional.

Let me preface by saying that I have not watched this show regularly - I've just seen a few minutes of it here and there. But from what I've seen, it looks like all of the actresses have been sort of inconsistent in their performances.

Michellyn: I really did not like how she started the scene. Like Jen said, it was so rushed. And she seemed, I don't know, loud to me. I felt that her "crying" in the middle was fake and overdone. BUT, I really did enjoy how she closed the scene - how it was really quiet, and she repeated the last line a second time. But I still couldn't believe how much Joe praised her for that scene - I mean, it's a hard scene, and it's not that I thought she was really that bad - I just would have given more constructive criticism. *Positive note* - She seems like she has the sweetest personality of the girls, and I think that she visually fits better with the OTH cast than the other actresses would.

Katie: Like I said, I haven't seen much of the show, but I did catch the end of last week's episode, and Katie was my favorite at that particular point. I was expecting much more out of her. Again, as someone else said, all of the pauses she made forced the scene to drag on.

Mercedes: Out of these girls, I think that she gave the best performance tonight. It wasn't over the top, and it didn't feel fake. But I also think that she didn't entirely go there - that she didn't let the emotion of the scene overtake her.

But it had to have been hard for all of the girls to do that scene. They had to do it without a director telling them to say a certain line a certain way, or to put a pause here or there. And they had to find a way to make the scene their own - they couldn't just duplicate another person's performance. Anyway, I'm sure that all of the girls gave a better performance than I could have.

I would have to say Michellyn was my favourite out of the like 4 episodes I watched, but Mercedes did great tonight. I mean, I don't like Katie and I didn't like her preformance and conceited attitude. Mercedes, i liked her from the begining though, she was so, well, not serious, but took to the scene. I liked her screen test of the Peyton scene, although nothing beats the original, ever.
