Southern Gothic Productions #2: Because Hilarie Wears Many Different Hats!

Welcome to the 2nd Southern Gothic Productions Thread!.

Southern Gothic Productions Blog

A little over a year ago, Hilarie Burton and Kelly Tenney started Southern Gothic Productions. We both feel strongly that Wilmington, NC is the right setting to create quality films for reasonable budgets. Since then, we have been developing multiple projects for both the feature and television markets, along with working on the hit TV series One Tree Hill.

Upcoming Projects

Pedestrian

Written by: Nick Gray

Starring: Austin Nichols as Lincoln Booth

To be a New Yorker is to be a pedestrian.
You're not committed to anything more.
You're not expected to make connections.
The only expectation is to be in motion.

SYNOPSIS:

Lincoln Booth is a successful rags-to-riches photographer.
He has the vision of a truly gifted artist.
He is young and handsome.
He is good with women.
He has a lump.

Confronted with mortality, and the realization that his world in New York is far from supportive, Lincoln decides to return home to North Carolina so he can reconcile a life he left at 15 years old. But does he really have the nerve to go back?
Lincoln finds courage, and even better, a beautiful distraction, in the form of Mona Mills; a designer-label, Pedicab driving, human antidepressant. Mona, the embodiment of his over-active imagination, is in turn drawn to the mystery of Lincoln, and the challenge of cracking his self imposed isolation.
After a few chance encounters, and an undeniable spark, Lincoln invites Mona on a road trip to North Carolina; an invitation she readily accepts, although naïve to the excursion’s real motivation.

Their journey down the east coast is punctuated with colorful characters, shared vulnerability, and the hope of new possibilities. That is, until the true purpose of the trip surfaces. Feeling used and discouraged, Mona heads back to New York, forcing Lincoln to face his weaknesses alone, and remedy the choices he’s made; past and present.

Can he reestablish the family ties that were severed years ago? Will he find a way to get Mona back? Most importantly, does Lincoln have the strength to let down his guard and overcome his fears of love and reliance?

Touching and relevant, PEDESTRIAN reminds us that we all have what it takes to be more than just a nameless face in the crowd.

QUOTES
“I’m taking a road trip. I’d like you to come.”
“Where to?”
“Somewhere grossly rural.”
“Will there be goats.”
“I can promise cows.”

“There is a kind of person,
a kind of person that wants
to be more than they are ...
... I'm that kind of person.
You are probably said person.”

“You make me feel like ... something's gonna happen”

Fay Vance is an interesting one. I'll have to look him up.

"Nick Jams vs. Hil Tunes"

Nick’s Jams
1. "Levon" - Elton John - As a storyteller, I search for songs like this one, an epic tale in just a few verses.

2. "Razor Face" - Elton John - One of the greatest inspirations for Pedestrian. Lincoln Booth is a razor face, for sure. You'll see.

3. "Amie" - Pure Prairie League - Every once in a while, one needs to be humbled. And my unabashed love of this classic often reminds me I'm not as cool as I think I am.

4. "Cheers Darlin'" - Damien Rice - Damien Rice is always on repeat in my playlists, but I always come back to this song as one of my favorites, a golden example of a troubadour who can embody the entire character of his song.

5. "Kiss From A Rose" - Seal - My favorite song of all time (runner-up is "Fancy" by Reba McIntyre)! I like the original, any live version, and I'll even take an in da club remix. And at about the 3-minute mark, when the music drops out, my heart sinks.

6. "Shape Of My Heart" - Sting - I listen to Sting when I'm doing dishes. I hope to never own a dishwasher.

7. "Accidents Happen" - Athlete - This song helps me see scenes in slow-motion.

8. "Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before" - The Smiths - I'm a really good dancer. Really good. Ask Hilarie.

9. "Smalltown Boy" - Jose Gonzalez - I've been known to be enamored with cover songs, and this is one to be reckoned with. A sobering take on Bronski Beat's dance-dance-dance track.

10. "Money" - Pink Floyd - Prostitutes have woven their way into my head of late. More on that later...

"Nick Jams vs. Hil Tunes"
Hilarie's Tunes

1. Ben Kweller - Sawdust Man (His new album, Changing
Horses, just came out. Get it! Ben is one of my favorites)

2. Langhorne Slim - rebel side of heaven (Been listening
to this song since this summer. Hasn't gotten old yet)

3. Rocky Erickson & the Aliens - Two headed dog (see the
documentary about this guy, called "You're Gonna Miss Me".
Stole my heart.)

4. Billy Currington - Good Directions (I have such a
crush on Mr. Currington. I pretend he's singing this song
about me. Ha. Southern boys make me nuts.)

5. Tom Waits - Sea of Love (This is a sexy damn song.
I want to slow dance to this real bad.)

6. The Avett Brothers - Will You Return (A friend just
gave me this song on a mixtape. This song is a gift I
love from a friend I love.)

7. Gladys Knight and the Pips - Nitty Gritty
(Get dressed to this song. You'll feel
badass all day.)

8. Computer - Datarock (Blogging makes me think
of this song. Ha.)

9. Pash - Kill the Rick Boys (Meredith, the lead singer,
is one of my best friends from high school.
She is unreal good! And foxy as hell.)

10. Be with Me - Fay Vance (Do you want to be with
me???)

Thanks for posting that here, Mel. I HATE that creepy, invasion of privacy "Live Traffic Feed" list on the bottom of the blog. I try to only go on with my phone now.

KT and James Burton's 2 cents...

Jame's hot list.... William Elliott Whitmore - Hell or High Water ( This is kinda my Southern Gothic anthem right now.)
Ray LaMontagne - You Are The Best Thing (A killer throwback to Motown classics, this song is sweet and sexy)
Gogol Bordello - Start Wearing Purple (This song will start a party. There's no stopping it)
Wale - Breakdown "DJ Infamous Remix" ( Great Hip Hop from D.C. with killer Go Go beats. Love it)
Say Anything - A Walk Through Hell ( Unconventional love songs are my favorite)
Thrice - The Lion and the Wolf ( I'm a little biased, cuz I love wolves, but this song is beautiful and scary and makes me wish it was snowing)
Hockey - 3am Spanish ( This song is Rad. Its Neon. Its Electric. Its Gold Chains and Sunglasses. Fresh!)
Forgive Durden - Life is Looking Up ( This is from the album "Razia's Shadow" and its a Alternative Musical. This song makes me wanna be a winner)
Foxy Shazam - Dangerous Man ( I am a Danger Man. I like Dangerous Songs. I also like the player piano sound of it. I am a Dangerous Man)
Northstar - For Members Only ( One of my favorite bands of all time. Amazing lyrics and catchy hooks. They broke up, though, so yeah, that sucks)
kt's song list... 1. Thriving Ivory - Angels on the Moon... Just WOW!! I just love this song, it's penetrating... it's driving... it's full of wisdom....Don't tell me if I'm dying. 2. The Killers - Human a catchy... fun tune... I really dig Brandon Flowers voice... really loved Mr. Brightside video. 3. Chris Issak - Wicked Game... how sexy is that man's voice... Damn sexy! 4. Kid Rock - All Summer Long... brings me back to my youth... I smile every time I hear this song. 5. Justin Timberlake - Sexy Back... I can hear Hilarie laughing and I don't care... This is my dirty pleasure song... 6. Rihanna - Disturbia... Can she get any better? It sure is creepy... It reaches into my old bones... makes them tingle. 7. Bon Jovi - You want to make a memory... another favorite that just doesn't get old to me. I can listen to this song over and over... I just like it. Kathy Rayle is gonna bust my stones tomorrow for sure. 8. Coldplay - Viva la vida.. I like quite a few of their songs... this one haunts me for some reason. 9. Linkin Park - What I've done... what footprint are we leaving on mother earth? 10. Flogging Molly - Kiss my Irish Ass... Gotta thank Alica for introducing this band to me... Tells me where they come from...
I'm a little biased, cuz I love wolves, but this song is beautiful and scary and makes me wish it was snowing
