Sooo..... go to the link in my bio to get pattern in picture 1.
Picture 2- we are making masks with 2 panels. One tightly woven cotton and one panel of reusable shopping bag. The shopping bag side will go on the outside of the mask.
Picture 3 - I didn’t like the rough edges on the initial instructions I received, so we are sewing 3/4 of the way around the mask just to keep it tidy.
Picture 4 - leave a small gap at the bottom of the mask so you can turn it inside out.
Picture 5 - turn inside out and push out corners to make them square. I’m using a crochet hook, but you can just used a capped pen or something similar.
Picture 6 - fold in and sew up the bottom edges. Then continue to follow the instructions in the tutorial in my bio. The next step is to sew a channel along the top and the bottom where you will thread your elastic eventually.
Picture 7 - you’re gonna want 3 pleats. So after some trial and error last night, I start with the bottom pleat, making sure it doesn’t overlap the elastic channel. I told it down. Pin it and then fold and pin the next two pleats. Sew down in each side.
Picture 8 - I snip little holes on the interior cotton side to run the elastic through.
Picture 9 - elastic is hard to find on amazon. But I found a ton of paracord. Look for 1/8 or 3/16. I’m going to leave a little excess and knot the elastic loosely so each person can tailor it to their own comfort level. It’ll get here soon and then I’ll be able to drop these at my local hospital.
