Exclusive: ‘White Collar’ Nabs ‘Tree Hill’s Hilarie Burton


Careful, Neal Caffrey – it appears your heart is about to get stolen.

Beloved ‘One Tree Hill‘ alumna Hilarie Burton – who just so happens to be one of the coolest gals out there – has booked a multi-episode run on USA Network’s ‘White Collar,’ Fancast has learned exclusively. And she’ll be playing no less than a romantic interest for Matthew Bomer’s “reformed” career con man.

Specifically, Burton has been cast in a six-episode arc as Sara Ellis, an insurance investigator-slash-white collar bounty hunter who has a bit of a score to settle with Neal. Yeah, it turns out that before he got thrown behind bars, Neal stymied her attempt to track down a stolen priceless painting – perhaps having pinched it himself.

Now that Neal is back out on the streets, Sara has locked her crosshairs on him anew. As a game of cat-and-mouse flares up, so do some criminally intense sparks.

In other words: This. Is. Going. To. Be. Hot.

Burton’s other credits include ‘The Secret Life of Bees,’ and she also is a founder of Southern Gothic Productions. And just FYI, she’ll be going back to blonde for the ‘White Collar’ role.

While we're on the subject of Kate, as some of the heavier plot points are resolved this season like the music box, and closing the chapter on Neal's deceased girlfriend, many viewers are already anticipating a new romance for Neal. Alex and Sara (Hilarie Burton) are just two of his options; maybe someone new perhaps? Either way there has to be some excitement for the writers to be able to play with a new element to explore with Neal as opposed to his constant pursuit and eventual mourning of Kate.
"Yeah, we made a very conscious decision in the first half of season two that Neal has to be in mourning. He has to do justice to their relationship and let him process it. We're very excited to let him explore a little bit and see what's out there. I think Matt and Hilarie have excellent chemistry; him and Gloria have great chemistry too. Those are two things we're going to play with."

With the way that the USA seasons are laid out, White Collar has a summer run of nine episodes and a break, and a closing seven episodes (with a 2-hour finale) before the spring. This presented a narrative challenge for the writers, needing to build in two cliffhangers into each season.
